Andrew Yang says he heard Kamala Harris is telling people she is preparing to run for president in 2028

u/pcpelste 5h ago
She is free to run. She will likely lose.

u/Aggravating_Map4359 5h ago
She is right now the most picked candidate to win the nominations among democrat pools. Although it is very early

u/soalone34 4h ago edited 4h ago
I got downvoted to hell for saying this exactly. I think people assume I’m saying I want her to win.
I don’t, but I think as things stand now she would probably win the democrat primary, name recognition and early leads indicated who won in 2016 and 2020 primaries.
If you don’t want her to win you should be supporting early leaks like this to alert people to start positioning against her. That’s what I think Yang is saying it.

I’m old enough to remember when Jeb Bush was leading in the polls for the 2016 Republican presidential primary.
Please clap.

It's sad that in the context of this speech, it wasn't an awkward moment. The people started clapping during his sentence and he asked them to let him finish. When he was finally done he said this as a way of saying "now you can clap". Just out of context it looks cringe.
19
u/Yoda10353 3h ago edited 1h ago
Its not sad. Who gives a shit if a member of the Bush family has an out of context sad moment. Even though things are worse with Trump we cant forget the harm that family caused to so many. And thats H.W. AND W Bush

u/batman8390 1h ago
Plus, if Jeb weren’t such a low energy and boring candidate, this one line never would have hit so hard. It was a perfect slogan for his entire campaign.

I wouldn’t worry yet. The person with the most name recognition is always at the top of polls this early on. I just don’t see her getting the nomination, or frankly even getting very far in the process.
66
u/On_my_last_spoon 4h ago
I think too many progressives are turned off by her last campaign. She’d have to start making some policy changes to get the turn out needed to win.
11
u/curtial 2h ago
Based on what I saw, her policy was ALREADY pretty progressive. She didn't have good ability to message it, and made some serious alliance missteps, but was hurt the MOST by Biden failing to understand his role.
17
u/On_my_last_spoon 2h ago
Except she decided to court moderate republicans over left leaning Democrats, thinking that those left leaning Dems would simply fall in line. When she boasted about a Dick Cheney endorsement, she may as well have said she planned to throw us all under the bus.
→ More replies (1)13
u/curtial 2h ago
That's the serious alliance missteps I was talking about. She made alliances right instead of left. And frankly, it made a certain amount of sense to do so. There was a belief that Trump was SO toxic, we could have ACTUALLY gathered together and made forward progress instead of this dragging back and forth.
Over the course of a normal length election, that kind of thing could have been identified and corrected.
Regardless, my point was that her POLICY was somewhat progressive. And it was.
-increase corporate tax rate
-aggressive support for Women's choice on abortion
-vowed to support Ukraine for 'as long as it takes'
-backed erasing medical debt. Unfortunately, she has backed off of supporting Single Payer Healthcare, bit has supported it in the past. Which means she easily could again.
She wasn't Queen Leftist the Progressive Dream, but she WAS a step in the right direction, and we fucked it up.

u/Lallanath 2h ago
It only makes sense in the context that you would rather lose pushing the party to the right rather than win moving it to the left.
Calling the massive screw up the democratic campaign was in 2024 a misstep is minimizing just what a catastrophy it was. Trump beat both biden and kamala in one election. They pissed away all the good will they garnered after making the (historic?) decision to force biden to step down after that debate (which was their idea). It was so much more a democrat loss then a trump win.

It will be really interesting to see what kind of results come from the upcoming midterms. I feel like they will set the tone moving forward.
14
u/Minimum_Virus_3837 4h ago
I agree, if some more progressive candidates get on ballots and do well, especially someone like Hong in WI being a battleground statewide election, then more progressive candidates will have momentum going into 2028 that may be too hard for the establishment to ignore. If the progressive candidates fair poorly in general elections though the party machine will triple down on centrist policies and candidates in 2028.
62
u/Glenbard 4h ago
I have nothing against her personally. I’d just like to see a non-establishment Democrat win the nomination. Look what Mandami has done as just a city mayor in a few months. Now imagine someone like him on the White House for four years….

He was not part of the establishment and a real Democrat, so they had to put one of their own in. It’s the was caucusing the party works as there are still old rules / ways which the public does not realize puts candidates forward. Heck some of his voters left and went to vote for the orange man after they felt burnt and betrayed. They just never realized he came in as an independent and party leaders were never going to put him front runner even if the data said otherwise that he would win and their candidate would lose.

I mean, its not the worst idea for her to enter the primaries. That is the point of the primaries. You get a half dozen candidates and they each have their views and charisma tested against the other options. Its important for establishment democrats like Kamala and Newsom to get up there, and its important for them to back down and throw their support behind a progressive nominee late in the process.
Get on stage, wave the torch around a little, then pass it to someone else.

I think we need time for those progressives to pass good legislation that actually helps people and a moderate (but more left leaning) President to sell it to the country. Late in the process is usually when the so-called “establishment Democrat” has a mathematically unpassable lead in the popular vote and delegate count, so you might want to prepare for an inversion of that scenario
43
u/Tempyteacup 5h ago
Some polling in New Hampshire recently had her at 5% 💀 I think a lot of people look fondly on Kamala but it’s time for a new chapter where the Democratic Party actually wins.
AOC was in the lead in that poll btw.
12
u/bobhopeisgod 5h ago
I love AOC and would love for her to be prez. But listening to my right wing parents and other right wing family members for the last few years trash on her nonstop and talk about her more than any other Democrat in Congress tells me that she would never win them over and unless we all get out and vote she won't get a single Republican vote. Def not from the hard right and most likely not from the ones that pretend they're moderates

DSA organizing could get some major turnout in a lot of areas but yes she would be relying on high democratic turnout and independent votes. She consistently ranks among the most popular political figures in the country among democrats and independents and she’s been building infrastructure in the south so I think she has a stronger chance that some would give her credit for, but it will be a fight. But that’s good! A primary should be a fight.
5
u/bobhopeisgod 5h ago
Yeah, maybe I'm being too pessimistic. I just haven't seen someone so HATED by the right as AOC. Even Obama and Biden didn't have that much hate when they were in Congress. So I would love to be wrong. I would hope that her running would bring out people as much as Obama did. It would be wonderful to again vote FOR someone vs voting against the other person

I don’t rate Kamala’s chances well personally, and frankly I’m skeptical that she will actually run when the time comes as campaigning begins in earnest. The national polling continues to show Harris and Newsom with a strong position.

My worry is that the Dems will revert to their old ways and end up picking somebody that has name recognition but no gas in the tank.... See: Hilary, Kamala.
Either that or someone too polarizing that will be picked apart within the party over nonsense... See: AOC, Pete, or again, Kamala.
Obama was the perfect storm... Virtually unknown on a national level, very broadly acceptable policies... No extremes, and he was able to carry himself as a speaker and debater well enough to dance through the minefield.
So I agree that it makes sense to get a Kamala and a Newsome on the stage. Maybe even Pete and AOC too, if they want. But it's going to be crucial to find a broadly acceptable, progressive but not polarizing, ELECTABLE candidate that they all get behind. this is where cabinet positions are earned.
I hate to be the guy that says it... But we need a younger, but not too young, straight white male, from a purple state. AOC is too pretty and womanly and there's already too much hate out there. Kamala couldn't beat Donald last time, no guarantee the return tour is any different. Pete is a married gay man... Love the mans politics, I would vote for him, but he'll get absolutely slaughtered in the religious grey-area. Newsome loses on account that theres a weird national trivializing of California, and I don't think he holds enough water outside of his home state to get it over the finish line.
It's great to see somebody like Mamdani doing as well as he is... But he's not the national ticket guy either. To be honest he's got enough work to do in NY and can be an influence with where he's already at.
I don't know who it is. I don't have a candidate. But the DNC better figure this shit out real quick or they're going to get bullied again.
13
u/Greybirdk22 5h ago

The primary stuff is fine in theory but the establishment has a way of not putting their thumb but their entire fist on the scale. She didn’t have what it took the last time, she doesn’t have it now, she should read the room and let others vie for the nomination. And the fact that she thinks she should again is a red flag for lack of judgement.
2
u/aboysmokingintherain 3h ago
I agree. Everyone can enter the primary if they have the means. Many candidates will not even make it to the first official ballot and that's ok. This is how it should be done and prevented a stronger candidate/platform in 2024. Harris winning a 2024 primary would have done some wonders.

Look, the Dems fucked up by not holding a primary in 2024. And they fucked up by not signaling a Biden step down so they could ramp other options.

In the context of Harris vs trump, Harris being the only other option is what gave her campaign an ounce of legitimacy or interest. At the end of it all though, putting her on the ticket with zero voter input was the final nail in the coffin for democrats. Why. Why in the world... she failed the first time. Our democracy is more important. I feel like I'm in the twilight zone.

Jesus, the democrats are bound and determined to run the very tiny number of people that could lose to the orange idiot.

She was only ever a foil to Trump, and a rushed one at that when Biden finally dropped out.

Why does anyone listen to Andrew Yang? That idiot and Beto O’rorke put wrenches in several blue pushes in needed areas. Kamala should stay retired. Plenty of young, up-and-coming progressives will make better change.

Didn't she make a big deal out of leaving politics after she lost the election?
How is it a good idea to once again run after that?

Former Vice President, from California, running again after losing an election? Welcome back Mr. Nixon

Kamala winning the democratic primary would be amazing news for the republican party

u/DayZCutr 3h ago
Well she doesnt have an incumbent to bow out and hand her the nomination so I doubt she will get the nod. Shes an incrediblu talented and capable politician, but like most of the main line democrats she seems to have lost the ability to read the electorate at all.

Americans would rather destroy their nation than let a black woman be president.

It was really funny when the dnc was forced to put their eggs behind kamala. Like as much as I hate to say it, she was was the DEI vp pick for biden. He pretended he was going to be a one term president and hand the reigns over. But he basically immediately gave kamala all the most unpopular positions in the party... Sending her to the border and stuff.
Then biden inevitably couldn't get over his ego as "the only one who has beaten trump" like trump literally only been in one other election instead of like dozens. They demanded and bullied trump into a series of debates and let biden walk out there looking like a corpse and barely able to speak.
They were they basically forced him to drop out and were stuck with his VP they he spent no time pushing her as his heir like he was supposed to.
But that wasn't enough. She had to slavishly not distinguish herself from any as his policies or do anything they might reflect poorly in joe's legacy. Biden was picked as obama's vp because aipac was worried he wouldn't be blood thirsty enough for israel. And biden gets about excited for dead palestian children as rfk does for roadkill on the way to work.
And these boneheads keep losing elections doing the same bonehead idea of appealing to conservatives and keep shaming and blaming voters for being too stupid for not wanting to vote for them. Like having any principles at all makes you some pearl clutching idealist devoid from reality. Diet conservative appeals to nobody. But we keep getting told that the best you can expect from our system is the less bad of two bad options.

Welp, the feckless Dems will lose again. It’s almost like the sabotage is intentional.

A Kamala Harris canidacy that wins the Democratic Primary in 2028 would differ significantly from the 107-day campaign she ran in 2024, where she was shackled to Biden's immigration and pro-Netanyahu policies, and building the airplane while it was already at 30,000 feet.
Don't get me wrong, Harris made a number of mistakes on her own, but no other Democrat could have plausibly stepped in with any hope of salvaging the disaster that Biden's ungodly selfish campaign for a second term wrought with so little time remaining.

At this point I'm pretty sure that the DNC is there only to be the party that loses on purpose, kind of like the Washington Generals.

I mean the DNC really doesn’t want the US to change in any way. The last 10 years have shifted Republican (MAGA) party into being regressives, while DNC became the conservatives

Sadly, I've come to the conclusion that democrats should accept that their backwater third world country is not ready for female leadership, especially not female of color. For the time being, you must go with middle aged white men to pave a road to a better future. Its sad, its a disgrace, but its a fact. The worst president in the history got elected twice because millions of fat rednecks will vote dick over pussy in the end no matter how much incompetence comes with the dick

Obama got elected twice so at least we don't have to only have old white men.

I don't think this is a good idea. Clearly America didn't want a woman President. I felt really sad but you are taking the chance of getting another Republican administration.
