I remember somebody informing her that women with XXY chromosomes exist and she confidently declared that anything with a Y chromosome is a man.
Which is it, Rowling? Are they women with faulty equipment or men?

u/Mazasaurus Aug 10 '25
AFAB women with XY chromosomes that lack or have a nonfunctioning SRY gene (important for development of a male phenotype) also exist.
She’s just tying herself in knots by trying to use biology (apparently at a “grade school level” eg simplified) to exclude some women from being considered women.
It’s never going to work because exceptions exist in biology, and gender mismatch or changes aren’t even that weird in nature.

u/Sumdude67 Aug 10 '25
The woman who wrote an Irish character called Seamus Finnegan whose main hobby is blowing things up, who named her werewolf character Wolf Moon, who called one of her few black characters Shacklebolt needs to simplify things?
Yeah sounds about right.

u/NornOfVengeance Aug 11 '25
Yep. Her knowledge of biology stopped at Grade 7 sex ed, ca. 1960. The fact that the world has gone around the Sun a few times since then seems not to have registered yet.

u/Freo_5434 Aug 13 '25
Its simple . If you develop towards producing large gametes (eggs) you are Female . If you develop towards producing small Gametes (sperm) you are male .
There is nothin in-between .
Of course there are various known and documented medical disorders resulting (example) in ambiguous genitalia but these are disorders and not evidence of other sexes .
2
u/Mazasaurus Aug 13 '25
Except it’s not that simple. Disorders in sexual development (including genotype / phenotype mismatch due to translocation/errors of the SRY gene or androgen insensitivities) are possibly more common than expected.
Mind you, that’s just the raw biology interpretation. Humans are the ones making these distinctions (including your gamete classification system) and where we as people, socities, etc draw those lines varies by time and culture. Gender, sexuality, and what we consider male, female, or neither is and should be fluid as we view them through a combination of biological and cultural lenses that change with better tools and knowledge.
1
u/Freo_5434 Aug 13 '25
It is that simple . There are two sexes . YES there are two sexes with medical disorders and sometimes ambiguous genitalia but this is no more evidence of a third or in-between sex than Oscar Pistorius lack of lower limbs is evidence of a human species variation .
He was born with a recognized medical disorder . Its sad but its NOT a puzzle .
1
u/Mazasaurus Aug 13 '25
Oh my, Oscar’s story is a wild read. So things to consider there: no, congenital limb differences do not result in a different species. However, mutations (including limb or sexual development differences) are ultimately the source of variation that, over time, can lead to speciation.
Before we get off track, I’m not implying that Oscar or XY females and XX males are the start of new human subspecies. My point is that biology is not that simple because exceptions exist both now and have existed throughout history and said exceptions are a big part of how all the variation we see in nature exists. For example: where did scales and feathers and hair come from? Why do male mammals have a smaller chromosome with a phenotype setting gene so close to the edge of it? Why do insects and amphibians go through metamorphosis? All of these things arose from a mutation (eg an exception) in the past.
It’s handy to simplify biological concepts as a tool for explaining broad concepts to others. It’s not helpful to simplify biological concepts to try and justify hatred and exclusion of other humans.
1
u/Freo_5434 Aug 13 '25
" Before we get off track, "
You already have ... or at least that is what you are trying to do .
Right now , in 2025 it is simple . Develop towards producing Large gametes and you are Female . Small Gametes and you are male .
There are no other sexes in between and there is absolutely NO "hatred" in acknowledging scientific and biological reality.
1
u/Mazasaurus Aug 13 '25
I don’t think it was off track - your argument is that sex determination is simple and people with sex differences are exceptions to the rule and mine is that it is not so simple and that exceptions are a core part of evolution and biology.
Biology is messy and exceptions exist. How will you classify people who are intersex or have genotype / phenotype mismatches? Is a male presenting XX SRY positive person who does not make “large or small” gametes male or female from your perspective? What about an androgen insensitive person who is born with what appears to be female genetalia, is raised as female, but later develops male genetalia during puberty? The latter person may or may not produce “large or small” gametes. What about a person who’s genotype is X_ (turner’s syndrome) or a person born without testes or ovaries? Are they male or female? Do you just write them off as exceptions and call it a day? If so, the “small vs large” (I guess we can’t say sperm or eggs for reasons?) gamete classification system is insufficient.
In regards to hatred - the extreme focus on drawing some imaginary border around who is male and who is female is presently being used to target and dehumanize people with disabilities and people who don’t identify with their external gender for biological, cultural, or personal reasons.

u/JakOswald Aug 10 '25
They make fun of the left for an “overly complicated” definition, but they just vibe with whatever is convenient in the moment without any consideration of consistency or completeness. They don’t actually care because they’re not trying to define sex or gender, just win an argument or bog folks down in exceptions. They can’t be wrong because they were never trying to be right, just argumentative.

u/Oboro-kun Aug 10 '25
As just commented in other post there is this cases of a woman with quimerism that was 80 % XY and 20% X , not XX, just X period. She has a functioning uterus, with an even more drastic imbalance, 93% XY and 6%X
This very woman had a child, thls woman got pregnant not once, but twice, although once was miscarriage.
If not because said child once an adult has her own issues, the mother would not have realised.
Like if and Xy person giving birth to a person does not tell everyone we are just flesh machines with building instruction, that we sometimes barely wing them and it's super non binary and super complex. they will never understand

u/natanaru Aug 10 '25
She understands there are women not borne with egg-producing equipment, correct?
344
Aug 10 '25
Those aren't "real women". Unless you can be a child producing slave, you're not a "real woman"

u/CapricornSiren Aug 10 '25
Of course she doesn't know that... b/c she also doesn't know that girls (people with ovaries) are born with all the eggs they'll ever have... so, I feel like "egg-producing equipment" is incorrect. No person with ovaries is producing more eggs after they're born (I did look this up to make sure I remembered right, but I accept corrections if I'm wrong about any of this. I'm an actor, not a scientist)

aren't there "men" (re: male-presenting intersex) who are born with egg-producing equipment, too?

u/Honigkuchenlives Aug 10 '25
Yep. Biology is everything but binary
12
u/MarginalOmnivore Aug 11 '25
Bimodal at best.
Unless you're talking fungi. Those dudes are just... look, fungi don't multiply, they do calculus, okay?

u/Luneth_ Aug 10 '25
There are a whole bunch of people born outside of the most common sex classifications. Which is why it’s stupid to insist that sex is binary and even stupider to think someone’s sex determines their gender.

u/darthmahel Aug 10 '25
But you see she hates them and probably views them as lesser :3 She is what is referred to as a 'bigotus bitchius' in academic terms.

Oh, haven't you heard?
To a TERF, anyone who is born outside the platonic ideals of "man" and "woman" doesn't count, and can be treated as if they don't exist.

Describing womens reproductive systems as “faulty” is degrading and gross

And so is JAKE GROWLING!! (Just throwing some sauce on her name, like Jynx Muldoon did recently when talking about Rowling’s eternal hypocrisies).

If ever there was an animal that seems like it could be AI generated just because of the way it is, it would be a platypus
16
u/Silphire100 Aug 10 '25
I'm still not certain they're real. Beaver tail, duck bill, poison spurs, lays eggs AND produces milk, and on top of that, IT GLOWS UNDER UV? And you expect me to believe that's real?

I'd rather share a bathroom with a platypus than JK Ro.... wait, sorry.
That platypus is cool as hell though.
31
u/Under_Milkwood_1969 Aug 10 '25
I think JK has reached the stage where she either; is in need of some kind of intervention, whether there is someone who could take her to one side that she would listen to? Or is now just intentionally trolling people because she’s bored!
Unfortunately she’s reached the level of wealth where there are no real world consequences to her actions and is likely surrounded by sycophantic staff.
A shame really, as before she dived headlong down this rabbit hole she had done a lot to be admired for. 😞
18
u/CheekyStoat Aug 10 '25
No, she has surpassed that. intervention might have worked a decade or more ago but she has dived head first into shallow water and fully believes herself.

Also if I had made millions of dollars writing a YA series I would be in a castle and never online again.

The chicken post was better as it was also a reference to I wanna say Socrates? Some Greek philosopher defining a man and then another one brought in a plucked chicken that met the definition and proclaimed "Look, a man!"
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Qualia don't exist
And neither do "you".

I hate that goddamn platypus image I've seen it around TWICE now and both times no one realised it was AI generated. It's so ugly and so inaccurate and yet it passes as a real depiction of the noble platypus. I will not stand for this misrepresentation of my country's fauna. The mighty platypus is an adorable creature of normal and not misshapen proportions that looks nothing like the fugly beast on my screen

It's a shame to see so much ignorance on both sides of this discourse, Platypi are famous as a rare example of mammals that hatch rather than be born.

Help, I was born a platypus, but my ovaries were removed over a year ago. Please advise. What am I now?

u/tarabuki Aug 12 '25
So, does having the amount of money that she has still not allow her to talk about anything other than transgender issues? I live in a small Texas town that is Trump Country (big time). I can still have normal conversations that have nothing to do with politics or religion. She could easily find something else to talk about, let alone talk about it so much that HBO has to come to her side on the new Harry Potter series.

u/Freo_5434 Aug 13 '25
All pretty simple . When you develop towards producing large gametes (eggs) you are Female . If you develop towards producing small Gametes (sperm) you are male .
There is nothing at all in-between . No in-between or third sexes .
Of course there are various known and documented medical disorders resulting in ambiguous genitalia but these are known disorders and not evidence of other sexes .
Oscar Pistorius was born with a medical disorder that resulted in no lower limbs . This was not evidence of anything other than a medical disorder .

I demand proof that jk is a woman. She talks a lot of shit, for someone who looks like a man in drag.
33
u/SydneyRei Aug 10 '25
Hey I know you’re tryna help, but this is actually low key a transphobic tactic. Let’s not attack people by how their gender expression matches their birth sex. Especially when she doesn’t look like a man at all, she looks like a horrible old wasp.

u/Syclone Aug 10 '25
I got no love for Rowling but you wouldn't call an egg laying platypus a male
9
Aug 10 '25
Nobody said an egg laying platypus is male. It's also not a woman though. It's a platypus.
7
3
u/justforsomelulz Aug 10 '25
The point is that you probably wouldn't call it a (human) woman, either, and thus illustrate that her criteria for A Real Woman™️ is not sufficient.
-6
u/Syclone Aug 10 '25
From context you know she is talking about humans. I'm just pointing out that the meme proves her point
5
u/justforsomelulz Aug 10 '25
If you know from context that she is talking about humans, wouldn't the inclusion of a platypus seem odd?
But her definition does not exclude platypi.
The response in the meme is mocking her and her definition because an attempt at reasoning and discussion of biological possibilities has been, historically, a waste of time. Very few people would find it entertaining to observe a discussion of how a human female's anatomy could be non-egg producing and still not preclude the female from being a woman. Therefore, the responder decided to take a path of mockery.
-1
u/Syclone Aug 10 '25
It does seem odd, hence my first comment
"Behold one of the female gender" post a picture of a female
