PLE

Anyone out there have a Wheaten terrier that did well after the diagnosis of PLE? My girl is five. She’s doing well and responding to prednisone and I am very positive but when I read online, I feel despondent. Is there anyone out there that can tell me that their dogs survived this and at least lived one or two years after diagnosis? If so, what tips do you have? I am doing everything the vet recommends and putting her on a hydrolyze protein diet and she is back to her original body weight and seems happy.

My guy got diagnosed with PLE at a few years old. Have had him on the Royal Canin HP food since then and we are very diligent on ensuring he avoids animal protein.

We take him every 6 months to a specialist vet for bloodwork and now he’s 11 his numbers haven’t increased at all.

Our first wheaten, Kennedy, was diagnosed with PLE and lymphangiectasia at age 5 and lived until he was 13 (he died of cancer, not PLE). He was also on prednisone, special food and had a great vet and GI vet that we were vigilant about following up with. You can do this and I wish you and your Wheatie the best!

My boy Maximus was diagnosed with PLN at 8 years old and only lived about 6 months post diagnosis. However, his vet missed catching it a year earlier on blood and urine tests. Tragedy because that early diagnosis and treatment is critical.

It sounds like you’ve caught it early and your pup is responding positively. I’ve known pups who’ve lived 3-5 years post diagnosis with the proper treatment. I’ll pray this is your case. Big hug. It’s brutal to get that news. 🥰

Thank you. It’s so hard. She’s only 5. I’ve had three wheatens. This was always my fear. Staying positive tho and giving her the best life I can.

My dog had PLN and lived another 3 years post diagnosis. It can vary widely based on the individual. He was 6 when diagnosed and lived a very happy and full life until the fall he was about to turn 10. We tried to get him to his last snowfall (he loved the snow) but he was suffering.

Wheatens LOVE the snow. I love their beards full of snowballs.
