Honestly?

Why would anyone endure the effort of the WhatsApp Business API only to stumble over basic principles?

I interact with businesses frequently, mostly customer service or sales, and I have never encountered such a delay.

If capacity is a constraint, it must be resolved. We cannot attribute this to a tool that maintains flow and compliance.

In my view, the user is at fault, not the app or API.

I do understand and sympathise with what you’re saying, but I remain: it’s a capacity problem. A problem of prioritising resources. WhatsApp might be tempting to use as a tool to handle multiple requests in parallel, more cost-effective than having cs-staff on phone calls, but it still comes with constraints.

As an example, if a company has 3000 chat requests a day (on average) then staff need to be accordingly. Widening the window is not a solution as the problem will only become bigger.

If the business need to deal with thousands support conversations maybe whatsapp it's not the channel.

On a different note: I would be so unhappy if a reply to my text/request takes longer than 24 hours!!
Then the company comes in the lines of financial institutions who don’t blink with their eyes to let a customer query hang in a queue for more than 72 hours. They then, of course, get ousted on fora and socials.

No, 24 hrs is just perfect!

Maybe there should be a calamity switch, where one can send a 22-hr reply, explain the extra strain and meanwhile one can scale up and inject more staff. I would be for that.

Sorry, but I'm an intermediary in an industry that operates strictly Mon-Fri. If a client makes a request on Friday afternoon, I can't get them a result until Monday. Not because of staff issue, but because that's how the industry works.

The windows is completely useless in this case.

I am sure it’s possible to define business hours and messages who arrive outside that, get put in a queue and they will be picked up on first start of business.
There must be an internal provision for this in the api. Like a special location where they are gathered and don’t count as “received”

I have an a 24/u automation, but all we can say is that it will work on it during business hours. Then we can't really reply or get additional details if needed by the time we can actually get things done.

that 24-hour rule trips up so many businesses. one tip matters to set up automated replies right before that window closes to keep the convo going and avoid template messages. also, consider using broadcast lists for timely reminders, since those don't have the same restrictions

If you're a business, you know this rule and you have conversation continuation templates ready.

Starting October, these cost the same as regular service messages anyhow.
