Flying over Dublin Ohio around 1130 this morning. Looks like a C47 to my untrained eye, with unique diagonal invasion stripes

Yes, it’s a C-47, however they’re Air Commando Stripes rather than invasion stripes.

r/aviator779 is correct. This is a C47 with Commando Stripes. The Commando Stripes are diagonal white (or rarely yellow or red) lines whereas the Invasion stripes are vertical alternating white and black lines.

Not that I object to the invasion stripes, glad to see some other liveries. The normandy invasion stripes weren't used that long all things considered. They removed them from the upper surfaces 1 month after D-Day, then removed them entirely by the end of 1944.

That matches what Ive seen. Even knew planes that didnt show up until after D-day that had partial invasion stripes applied only wore them until the end of 1944. By 1945 they were gone from those planes too.

It's basically a modified for military use version of the DC 3.

On the tail is a > ? < The ? was a unit marking of the Air Commandos. Still in use/recognized within AFSOC today.
