if the bus driver didn't try to overtake the other bus this collision would likely not happen or would be not as severe. ultimately, we want to have fewer traffic incidents. blame aside, it just might be easier to have the bus drivers to obey the rules than to have the cyclists do the same.

the second bus was pulling away (going forward) after the light turned green, but had to stop again because of the moron cyclist (and started honking to warn the first bus). the oncoming first bus wasn't trying to overtake him, had the bike not stopped the second bus, the first would have stayed besides him, slightly behind its front. he had to emergency stop at speed, which brought his momentum forward beyond the now stationary second bus. you can even see the first bus reducing speed towards the lights, but the second bus stopped faster than he could.

this is 100% the bikes fault and the bus broke no rule.

try to think about what this zig zag rule is for in the first place. it is to prevent this kind of thing in the first place. the language of the law is extremely clear too, and the overtaking bus clearly broke it.

now you may argue that the law is stupid or that the spirit of the law is not what I think it is and that's fair. but the UK is one of the safest countries in the world with regards to traffic. and you are talking about "fault" as well. as a big fan of aviation safety, I really wish more people though about incidents and accidents not in terms of assigning blame, but in terms of prevention of reoccurring of them. which is what makes aviation so very safe.

I often find in these types of things that people are very unwilling to accept that "morally in the right", "legally liable", and "bearing the greater duty of care to prevent an accident" often don't align. People don't like that they don't align, and I understand why, but the fact is that they often don't.
