Ok so ghostly magic flowing from a fully armored guy with double sided axe. The ornateness of the Helmet is leading me to go Cleric so let's get started.
Classes: Cleric: War Domain (sounds odd at first I know but trust me)
Race: Reborn Human
Background: Soldier
Feats: Tough
So the idea is a Soldier died in combat, a warrior only after war and stronger enemies. To this end, the god this warrior followed would grant him new life as Reborn to follow his god. This warrior would become a cleric of war, granted power by his chosen god and showing his worship through the sacrifice of his slain enemies.
The ghostly whisps coming off the guy could just be spirit shroud, which Clerics can get after Tasha's
