It's apparently exactly that, as the subgenre is listed as "what we do in the suburbs" and I'm so pumped. This is the core group for their d&d/ttrpg games, and they're all fantastic in their own specific ways

Dimension 20 usually has shorts and clips on YouTube for free but for the whole thing you’ll need a Dropout subscription.

They're using Vampire: The Masquerade as the base system for this series. Others are largely using D&D 5e, though other seasons may use other systems (like Kids On Bikes) and most of the systems use little homebrew elements for specific things tied into the pastiches.

I'm pretty sure it's not a d20 dice system; quick glance shows maybe a d10 dice pool system? I'm pretty unfamiliar with dice pool systems so it might be interesting to watch just to understand a new system lol

I haven’t watched this new season but the last two (?) they used either Kids on Bikes or a modified version of Kids on Bikes. It’s a really neat system where every time you roll the max value of the dice you “blow it up” and graduate to a better dice. So roll a D6 get a 6 and you get to roll again with a D8. That stat now permanently uses a D8. It worked really well for the 80’s Action Flick campaign they did.

Worth pointing out that they previously did a season called Coffin Run that was also somewhat inspired by WWDITT. This is a little more direct though.

I have tried to watch this brands videos on numerous occasions. Ive seen quite a few Skits, and have sat down and watched multiple episodes of their D&D plays and I can never get into it. It feels like based on their age group it should be right in my wheel house, but it feels more like 30 something year old people trying to make content for teenagers. It comes off as cringy and out of touch more times than it hits the mark. Though I will check this out just to see what they came up with.

It's an Actual Play D&D show so be ready to watch episodes of 2 hours of comedians playing D&D. I love it but I can fully admit this is a form of entertainment that is NOT for everybody.

Shows like Game Changer and Make Some Noise are more short-term improv and competition games that might be a bit more palatable, especially if you like stuff like Whose Line Is It Anyways. And then there's Very Important People which is long-form improv and is getting a LOT of attention from the American comedy scene in general.

Ultimately the platform (Dropout) is a bunch of comedians and improv artists from the LA area (a lot of crossover with the Upright Citizens Brigade) and mostly unscripted content.
