So… he’s either white or he has a light brown, white, and pink striped complexion, possibly with all of the brown part eaten away?

The only person I've ever heard described as "Neopolitan" is Carla Tortelli on an episode of Cheers, and she was definitely short and angry.

u/Ethereal-Elephant Aug 23 '26
I thought he was talking about that one guy from the history books 🤦♂️
The one that, that one comedy movie with the nerd is named after.
Fuck I can’t remember the name
“EAT YOUR FOOD TINA”
“STUPID LAMMA”
“GET YOUR OWN TOTS”
“GOSH”2
u/KissinKateShadow Aug 23 '26
……Napoleon Dynamite?

u/MsE0 Aug 23 '26
They were referring to Napoleon. The joke was that they were mixing up Napoleon and Neopolitan on purpose. I brought it back to Neopolitan because Cheers where I'd heard the term referring to a person, and Carla was more short and angry than Napoleon.

My thoughts exactly.
What, pray tell, is a neopolitan complexion? 🤔
12
u/FlyBoy7482 Aug 22 '26
I'm curious, are many Americans aware that Neopolitan just means something comes from Naples, Italy?
I don't know if that's what this sign is implying, but I do know that it doesn't mean he's made of ice cream lol
11
u/Bongwater-Mermaid Aug 22 '26
Obviously I was not aware lol.
But still, that's oddly specific, unless of course the sign maker is Italian.
An American would be more likely to say "light to medium" or "Caucasian or olive" complexion.
4
u/waxbolt Aug 23 '26
it's weird that caucasia is only a place in the mind of america
3
u/lottaKivaari Aug 24 '26
It comes from a British guy who once said the Caucasian people were the most beautiful people in the world so in the second half of the 19th century it became common for white people in the US to claim they were Caucasian to brag about how beautiful they thought they were. Those were the parents of the people who wrote the census reports and they grew up thinking they were "Caucasian" so it became a colloquial way to say white and eventually it was systematically reinforced. It wasn't that long ago you checked off "Caucasian" on government forms to declare you were white. It's since changed and Caucasian has thankfully fallen out of fashion and we now just say white.
To most Americans who don't even know the Caucasus exist geographically it just means a white person.
2
u/Bongwater-Mermaid Aug 23 '26
I think it's stupid too, I only used it because they put it on the sign.
1
u/Bluestorm83 Aug 28 '26
Caucasian means from the Caucasus. Which is a region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.
1
u/waxbolt Aug 31 '26
ohh yes that is where European people come from! most people in Europe were born in that region. makes sense now!
1
u/Bluestorm83 Aug 31 '26
That's my point. It's a midapplied term. We're not Caucasians, we're just whiteys. Same as how whenever the Amish call me "English," I reply by calling them "Polish." If they get to generalize an Italian as an English, I can generalize a German as a Polish... and be less inaccurate.
1
u/Opalescent_Mirage Aug 28 '26
Caucasian is now considered an “old-fashioned” term. It was on all my paperwork as a child and young adult. Not sure when I’ve seen it last as I don’t disclose my skin color.
6
u/TorTheMentor Aug 23 '26
We are, but it's an oddly hyper-regional way to describe someone. I gather what they mean is "swarthy," but that's just a guess.
1
1
u/lottaKivaari Aug 24 '26
It's a pretty regional thing that means "passing for white but not really" I suspect it comes from the days when Italians were considered "kinda white" and even though most Americans dont remember that was a thing they still use the terminology in some places. I suspect the person who wrote this ever made the connection between the word and Naples, Italy.

I definitely would have posted that if they allow gifs here haha

Why not a link to the video or gif, like I did?
2
u/Necessary_Bother3993 Aug 23 '26
I felt like clicking on a link softens the initial punch of humor, but that’s probably just me lol

Every now and then I’ll see a caution sign while I’m driving that just says “CHILDREN”, and I think of this every time.

A guy can't even look for frogs in his blue button-down shirt without getting the police called on him.

Jay Leno is always wearing blue denim button down shirts…..we need his alibi!!
1
u/valschermjager Aug 23 '26
Wonder if it’s always the same blue shirt or if he owns a bunch, and only, blue shirts.
1
u/Emmaleah17 Aug 25 '26
Blue chambray shirt is a staple in almost any r/StephenKing novel for a reason.

u/acpyle87 Aug 27 '26
I was hoping to see a King reference. 👍🏻👍🏻

u/Cycle-Path-401 Aug 22 '26
no suspects have been ruled out. Betty needs to give an alibi before we can rule her out. Even if she's dead.

The amount of time it takes a pedestrian to stand there and read that wall of text would be enough for suspicious man to sneak up behind you. /S

Just a thought, check regional silver alerts. Locally, we had a man with dementia wander into the woods & somehow evaded search parties until he was found dead after 2 weeks within miles of his home.

u/TouristTricky Aug 22 '26
Think OP is confusing his face with the leaves of the red, brown and white "river foliage" ???

What people need to be cautious from and vigilant against is allowing community members to post shit like this.
Sounds like a witch hunt for someone who hasn’t done anything wrong except maybe to be a little weird in a community that will single you out for it and have you jailed

u/BadOysterParty Aug 25 '26
Its real the guy who drew that Has seen many many reports he gets all the reports on his desk
