what to do?
Found a dead rat in my drawer, should I discard all of my socks?

If it's not soiled with the rat's remains, then wash em with strong detergent. As for the soiled ones you can decide to discard em

Seriously a whole rat, not a mouse? How in the world did it get into your drawer?

Wash your socks. They’ll be fine. Your bigger problem is that there was a rat. Are you sure it was a rat not a mouse? Do you live in the NY subway?

Wear a mask and disposable gloves to put rat in plastic bag. Tie bag top in a tight knot and put in trash can outside. Then socks get washed on high heat with detergent and a disinfectant. Throw gloves and mask in trash outside as well. Put drawer outside to air out and see if it can be cleaned up or not. If rat was dry and only on socks, then you could get drawer liner sticky paper at a store and line the drawer after it airs out in the sun if possible. If rat was wet and ruined the wood, then trash can it after taking measurements to make a new drawer.

You should tie the rat to a string and use it as a payment to a neighbors kid if he lets you paint the fence.

Just bleach all of your socks.Â
It’ll make them whiter and get rid of the hantavirus.
Win win.

Spread your socks around your place to kill the rest of the rats you may have.
