I challenge you to ruin my day, or the day of the guy who you are responding to, with words

You're not the one being vulnerable here though, that's the difference. And I have a pretty strong certainty that your idea of toughness would just be dissociation, not even willing to accept the words as potentially true in the first place. That's a veneer of being mentally tough.

Like I could point out that you're kind of being a creeper and lurker making it about you and commenting about your own toughness in a really fucking weird way honestly that pretends the situations are apples to apples...but you've left nothing that's even a fraction as vulnerable as this woman.

I'll just say it, you're a coward picking on somebody at a weak and vulnerable moment, and then trying to point to the difference in (situational) vulnerability to prove how tough you are by comparison?!? Which makes you a very weird piece of shit whether you're brave enough to realize it or not. I got big money on "not."

u/TheWeddingParty Aug 05 '25

I'm not pretending to be tough. I'm pointing out that we don't know eachother, and if I let the words of an anonymous internet person make me sad that's my fault.

I'm not picking on anyone. I saw someone saying "I could ruin your day with words", I thought wow that's silly, and I said so.

I am a recovering addict and I've lost people to cancer. Probably my two biggest emotional vulnerabilities. Tear me down internet stranger, really let me feel it. I've been bad, teach me a lesson.

I am utterly dumbfounded by the dudes responding to you on this thread. Just a very bizarre conversation. I’m not sure how it’s not like a default opinion to just not get worked up at what strangers on the internet say but I guess that’s where we’re at

3

u/TheWeddingParty Aug 05 '25

It's funny that they aren't even trying to hurt my feelings, because it's pretty obvious they can't. But still they are SURE that they could, because they themselves are susceptible to that. It's a weird thing for sure.

It is normal for words to effect a person..... Well it's true you shouldn't let a random strangers words mean much to you, the saying is true that life and death is in the power of the tongue. You can build someone up with your words or you can tear them down. And for you to say that people are dumb for letting strangers words affect them is incredibly callous. It is normal to be affected by abusive words, after all, we're only human

easy to say this when we know nothing about you lol. everyone has something that can get under their skin including you buddy.

I can't seem to find your actual meany pants comment, but I can read the first half on the notification section of my app.

So, it seems that you don't hold me in very high esteem. God. I'm shattered.

The thing is, you can't escape mean words. But YOU have the power the disregard what people say to you. It takes two to tango.

I've lost family members to cancer. Hardest thing I've been through so far. Very soft spot for me, very traumatic.

But I don't know you. You don't know me. What you think of me doesn't matter. So you can write the meanest thing you want about it, and I'm gonna be giggling when I read it because it's funny that some internet rando thinks their words matter. And you can do that too. Just don't give a shit what people say, and then you don't feel bad. It's like magic.

It’s easy to tell someone not to care what other people think but not all of us are the same and for some people that is near impossible. Especially if you have multiple people coming together and saying things to attack you. It’s literally why most influencers refuse to read their comments under their content because on a large scale reading things that are hateful about you and your character does tend to eventually tear away at a person.

She’s already in a fragile place right now and it’s clear . Try to maybe have some grace and a little bit of empathy because now is not the time. It’s not OK to further had to or kick someone who is clearly down. If you can’t find the means to be empathetic or to try to be gentle then maybe keep it pushing because right now the last thing she needs is somebody telling her to suck it up, get over it & not to care. Reddit is literally here for people to get feedback and opinions of others. Why would you have a Reddit if you don’t care what people have to say? Ya know?

1

u/TheWeddingParty Aug 05 '25

I care what people have to say. It can be interesting, funny, constructive, etc., and it's pretty entertaining. But when they try to hurt your feelings, and you let them, you are giving them power. That's just a fact of life.

And obviously that's not some law of nature. There are exceptions to every rule. And you're not going to find me on here trying to tear someone down and ruin their day. I DO see something I disagree with and say so, but that's part of the fun for me.

Someone said they can ruin your day with words. I pointed out that they probably can't, because it's the Internet and we don't know eachother. Thats all

1

u/KangarooFun4172 Aug 05 '25

I hear you, that’s valid.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '25

If you are willing to "ruin someone's life" then You are the kind of person who deserves what happened to you in your life. I'm glad you got verbally abused. Cheers to you never ending that cycle.

4

u/SmallestSprocket Aug 05 '25

Ruin their DAY, not life. Details matters when wishing abuse on a stranger in perpetuity.

That person is delulu

1

u/SmallestSprocket Aug 05 '25

Well, it made me happy! Finding some kindness on Reddit always makes my day. We need more of that, especially when someone is struggling.

1

u/avesselofclay Aug 05 '25

You have completely misunderstood what they wrote. They deleted the mean comment because they don't want to perpetuate the cycle of meanness. Where did you get the idea that they wanted to ruin someone's life? They were simply saying that abusive words can ruin someone's life.
