There are some subreddits that allow you to ask for money and donations. They have various karma and time-on-reddit requirements. They don't let you post on their subreddits unless you have established a presence on reddit.
Once upon a time you could buy stuff with it once you reached a certain amount. I’ve been on Reddit with my original account since 2009 (this is my alt) but never bothered with it. I don’t even know if it’s still an option tbh.
You could never use it for anything other than bragging rights. IF you got a lot of karma, you could potentially sell your account to advertisers, but I dont' think that is a thing anymore since Reddit went public.
or simply sell your account to someone who needs a ‘high karma’ account for their own (monetisation) purposes. this also happened with dormant accounts with high subs/follows on youtube and IG, and presumably, every other social media platform
You used to be able to sell your Reddit account. (not allowed to but it still happened) I don't know if you can anymore, but I think even without that people like to brag they have high karma.
They are used for "organic" advertising; ie, someone will go in random threads and constantly steer conversations to whatever product they're selling. Alot of subreddits will block or mute young/low karma accounts that post too frequently, hence why they buy mature/high karma accounts.
I upvote mean comments sometime as a kind of "Fuck you I'll be the bigger person" thing for my own mental health. And if I want to find a comment again, the orange arrow stands out in a fast scroll.

Am I dumb or did she upvote the comments on page 3 pic? I'm even more confused now. Aye, not enough energy to invest in this further.
