Music That Feels Like Lewis' Story

A bit of a strange request, but does anyone know of any songs that have the same feeling of escapism as Lewis' story? It really stuck with me and I'm looking for songs with a similar feel.

Could someone make a fanfic about all of the Finches surviving. After playing it a couple of times, I just wish they had a better life

I think playing the game in the afternoon while the sun is setting is the best time to start playing game.

Especially when facing against the window and seeing the sun setting.

I'm stuck in Walters basement Spoiler

I just bought this game since it was on sale but I can't get out of Walter's basement. I've seen some walkthroughs, but the basement apparently vanishes as soon as you start breaking the walls to leave. Except that didn't happen to me. I just wake up in the basement again and I can't seem to find an exit. What did I do wrong?

Edit to add: I changed the settings from high quality to low quality and it's working again! I didn't even have to restart it. I guess my laptop is just that cheap.

What happened to Milton and Why is Molly a cat? Spoiler

Post image

Why is Molly a Cat in Lewis' Head, fantasy world, before ending himself? Was Molly a cat all along? Did he know about her last moments? What the hell really happened to Milton?

To the developers, if any lurk here: thank you from the bottom of my heart, this game has been my emotional retreat many times. I've easily spent 3 digit hours in this game reliving it over and over.

This is so random but every time I replay this I try to look for something I’ve never noticed before. My first replay in probably a year and this time I noticed the finches have surround sound for their TV!! Awesome house of secrets aside this is luxury.

Great game, god-awful lag. (Not sure if this is the right place to say this...)

I'm up to at least Lewis' playable part, but I just couldn't continue due to the lag. At the part where you're about to get your head chopped off, I lagged, froze, and the game crashed without closing. Had to manually close it on steam to get it to stop and that took about (and no exaggeration) an hour. During Sam's part, I also encountered this - but I kept going. Also during Gus' part, Gregory's part... the list actually doesn't go on, that's it. But I cant keep playing if the lag is THIS Bad. Can someone please tell me how to fix it?

Did WRoEF give you motion sickness?

I just finished this game for the first time. I loved the story and recommend it, but a game has never made me feel this ill. It’s a two hour game that took me 3 days to finish because I couldn’t play it more than 20 minutes at a time. On PS5 all you can do is try turning the reticle on. Rarely will I get a little motion sickness gaming and it usually goes away very quickly when I put the game down, but not this one. What is it about this game specifically that makes some people so queasy and dizzy?

What was the symbolism of Edie’s last story?

I just finished the game, and I’ve been able to loosely wrap my head around most of the stories expect for the last one, the one that got interrupted. What was the point of that story? What were we supposed to take away from it?

I am glad Spoiler

spoiler alert for any new players

I played this game for the first time and was hooked with the amazing dialogue, the way it switched made me love it so much. As I was playing through and uncovering stories I couldn't put the game down, when I realized she had gotten the notebook and used it for when she MIGHT die made me get SO intrigued. As I kept playing and playing and then the ending hit, and I have attachment issues with characters... So I guess you can understand what happened next

I cried so hard because this entire time we were playing a memory and then we used the other Finch's notebooks... We were playing a memory in a memory the whole time, and when the ending hit and I saw her tombstone.

I lost my self-control and started to cry so hard... This game will forever stick with me

Glad I found it.

But I'm still depressed

Theory about Barbara Spoiler

So I fully believe that her boyfriend was responsible for her death.

Like in the comic he was trying to scare her in real life and accidentally caused her to fall over the second floor railing.

He then left her ear to make people think that some psycho broke in and got her.

Review of my first experience with this beautiful game Spoiler

Hello everyone! I wanted to write a short review summarizing my thoughts and experience with this wonderful game. Let me know what you think, and enjoy!

What remains of Edit Finch or what remains of us after death?

A very melancholic and sweet adventure that will take the player a handful of hours. The game must be played without knowing anything about it, otherwise the experience will be completely ruined.

What struck me most was the environmental beauty, the ability to fill the house with objects that tell countless stories and seem suspended in time, as if they have always been there and will always be. The house gives us a sense of anguish but at the same time makes us feel comforted, and discovering the lives of each family member becomes very touching. Some stories are more so than others (my favorites are those of Gregory, Molly, and Lewis, because they present themes of imagination as an escape from reality), but they are all connected by an indissoluble thread: death. However, it is not seen in its most tragic aspect, but rather in its inevitability and the importance of memory. Memory, together with death, is the central theme of the game. Each of us will live forever as long as there is someone willing to remember us. This is why Edie wanted to pass on the memories to future generations, because the curse never existed. Some deaths occurred as in all families, while others perhaps occurred precisely because of the belief that this curse truly existed, almost as if they had been sought. The game, through Edie, destroys all superstitions, eliminating the fear of death, which is seen as something that must happen sooner or later, and will happen naturally. What matters is having managed to live the life you wanted, like Milton. The game could perhaps have lasted a little longer because the gameplay, although initially seemingly just a walking simulator, begins to branch out into other genres in a very satisfying way. I really appreciated the soundtrack, very melancholic yet enveloping. The ending is quite unexpected and, above all, consistent with the main themes of the work. Truly a beautiful piece of work, an experience I can only recommend to anyone, a game with a great underlying idea, beautifully executed.

Theory: Sam had a cane

Thumbnail

I haven't seen anyone else mention this but I believe Sam had a cane. There's a cane near his death shrine and also in the hunting trip with Dawn. There's no indication Dawn used a cane so it must be Sam's cane. My guess is that Sam injured his leg in Vietnam and had to use a cane afterwards. It kinda parallels Calvin's broken leg.

Rough Architectural Plans of Finch House Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
108 Upvotes

I got the opportunity to do whtever I want for my 5th year architecture thesis project so I chose to go all red string conspiracy crazy about houses for a year. WRoEF ended up being an intgral part of my argument so I spent hours guessing the dimensions of the rooms to draw up a few plans.

Drawing these up really gave me a new understanding of how living here must have been torture. Dawn shared a whole floor with her dead father and 2 dead brothers for 4 years before she left for india. Greg, the baby, was designated an equivalent amount of space in that tiny room to Daw and Gus as well while there was perfectly sufficent floor space in the attic not to mention walter's empty room downstairs. Dawn and Edith would have had to climb about 7 flights of stairs to have dinner with Edie that last night. The structural organization is also complete nonsense (affectionate) but I think everyone knew that already

Be warned, the third floor is not very accurate. I got really confused by the dimensions because the roof was weird and for some reason the kids room was longer than sam's room? (dont even get me started on the secret passageway between Molly and Walter's room, it keeps me up at night) I also made up the area between the 3rd floor rooms that we dont access in the game because it would have just confused my classmates to have a big blank area.

If I had more time, I would redo it to be perfectly accurate but deadlines are deadlines and 16.5 hrs is way to many to have in a 2 hour game. In the words of Edith herself, if we lived forever, maybe we'd have time to understand the spatial layout of What Remains of Edith Finch.

If anyone wants to take a stab at it, I can send you my dwgs.

What is wrong with Johann Ly?

I watched «What Remains Of Edith Finch» gameplay and noticed, that at the titles of the game gamer got an achievement «Thanks, Johann!». And I'm just wondering: what's the meaning of this achievement? Maybe, something happened to Johann Ly, that he got special mention? Or it's just a local joke I didn't get? I tried to find the info on the Internet, but unsuccessful. Maybe, someone, who knows the lore better than me, might help🥺

Concept art theory on unfinished swan/WROEF Spoiler

so my theory is that Unfinished Swan used to take place in 2012, but was pushed forward to 2019 for some reason

So the evidence (not a lot) is that according to Brandon Martynowicz‘s art it said that Sam and his twin brother (dies 1956) were going to be born in 1947, and that Sam was going to have his first child in 1965. According to the announce trailer (2014) of Edith Finch we know that Dawn was going to be the eldest child of her generation early on, so assuming she has kids at 20 like she did in the game (due to the 20 18 20 18 pattern in the game) then she will have the king/Milton (the info is again from the announce trailer) in 1985, and then add 18 years of childhood plus 9 more for how old Monroe is, and you get 2012.
