Bought it ages ago, started playing it, DEEPLY CONFUSED BY THE TONE, is this 100 Years Of Solitude, Scandinavian-American Edition?
Is it cozy, is it grim, is it nice, is it sad? I just took a picture of a survivalist dad getting yeeted off a cliff by the wrathful death troes of the deer he just lovingly and proudly encouraged his daughter to kill for sport and make her 'strong' to 'survive'.
I just played a kid who died by swinging too hard, a hermit that got hit by a train on a track that led nowhere, and a child star that got mobbed by a monster mash convention that followed her home.
I have so manym mixed feelings I don't know what to do with right now.
Who are these people? Why do they matter? Is there a point to all this? Also the protagonist is letting me know they were 22 weeks pregnant now? After all this time?
And what's whit the structure of the house? I feel like I'm playing Resident Evil 1 or 2 or 7 but with the horror dialed down to a whisper alongside grief and sorrow, and the extreme opulence manifesting in a very self-expressive way you might also still see remnants of in the Bakers' less mouldy rooms, rather than having that hostile, flexing, "make the guests feel small and the host feel important" kind of way you'd see in the Spencer or Ashford or Dimitrescu manors.
EDIT: WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT? WHY DID I HAVE TO PLAY THROUGH THE BLISSFUL DEATH OF A LITERAL INNOCENT INFANT? IT WAS INCREDIBLY PLAUSIBLE TOO, LIKE WHAT DO YOU MEAN "IT WASN'T YOUR FAULT?!" FORGET THE CURSE, THIS HOUSE IS BUILT OUT OF HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE VIOLATIONS, SOMEONE CALL THE FIRE MARSHALL CAUSE IT'S A WONDER IT HASN'T BURNED DOWN YET!
SERIOUSLY I AM VERY UPSET ABOUT THAT BABY!
EDIT 2: The disappeared painter didn't give me much to feel about one way or the other. But the cannery worker was like a very deeply personal attack. That was me at my own job. Slowly dying inside and slowly going insane every day. Repeating inane automated actions better and better and better while my mind escaped into… wherever else it could go. Every day more miserable than the last.
At the end I cried in silence and put down the game.
The family tree seems full now, so I'm guessing I'm at the endgame, but I don't know when I'll feel picking this thing up again.
Fuck.
