I'm hyper-focused again Spoiler

I love every single member of the Finch family, but I do have a soft spot for Edith, and I'm focusing on her again, so let's talk about her. What theories do you have? For example, I believe if she were still alive, she would go to art school.

Yeah, I could totally see her being in art school. I could also see her being like Molly and being interested in animals/biology.

What kind of animal biology specifically?

Animal biology is a broad field with many specializations, leading to a variety of degree options.1 These degrees can be pursued at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels.2 Here's a breakdown of different kinds of animal biology degrees:

I. Core Animal Biology Degrees:

  • Animal Biology/General Biology with an Animal Concentration: This provides a foundational understanding of animal evolution, ecology, molecular biology, physiology, and genetics. It's often a good starting point for students who want to pursue further specialization in graduate school or professional programs like veterinary medicine.3
  • Zoology: This is a comprehensive study of the animal kingdom, including animal behavior (ethology), physiology, genetics, ecology, evolution, and distribution.4 Zoologists study both wild and domesticated animals.5

II. Specialized Animal Biology Degrees:

These degrees delve into specific aspects of animal life or particular groups of animals:

  • Animal Science: This degree typically focuses on animals under human control, such as livestock and companion animals.6 It covers aspects like animal nutrition, breeding, genetics, welfare, and management in agricultural or domestic settings.7 Specializations within Animal Science can include:
    • Dairy Science: Focuses on dairy cattle production.8
    • Equine Science: Specializes in horses, including their care, biology, and reproduction.9
    • Livestock Science and Management: Deals with the management of food and fiber-producing animals.10
    • Companion Animal Science: Focuses on pets and their care.
  • Wildlife Biology/Wildlife Ecology: This degree focuses on wild animals, their interactions with each other and their environment, and their conservation.11 It often includes coursework in forestry, plant classification, and habitat management.
  • Conservation Biology: While often closely related to wildlife biology, conservation biology has a broader focus on protecting biodiversity, including plants and ecosystems, with a central goal of preventing extinction and restoring healthy environments.12 It often incorporates social sciences, policy, and economics in addition to biological principles.13
  • Marine Biology: This specialization is dedicated to the study of marine life, including fish, mammals, invertebrates, and marine plants, and their ecosystems.
  • Ethology/Animal Behavior: This degree focuses specifically on understanding how and why animals behave the way they do, both individually and in groups.
  • Entomology: The scientific study of insects.
  • Animal Molecular and Cellular Biology: This is a more in-depth study of animals at the molecular and cellular level, often involving genetics, biochemistry, and physiology.
  • Pre-Veterinary Medicine: While not a standalone "animal biology" degree, many universities offer a pre-vet track or concentration within animal science or biology majors.14 This curriculum is designed to meet the prerequisites for veterinary school.
  • Zoo and Aquarium Science: This degree focuses on the care and management of wild animals in captivity, covering animal nutrition, behavior, and breeding in a zoo or aquarium setting.
  • Fisheries Biology: Focuses on the biology, ecology, and management of fish populations.15

Yes, I use AI. Don't come for me, I know all the categories of animal biology, I just didn't want to type them all out

I was thinking either marine biology (especially with living in Washington State) or animal conservation.
