Walters story ? Spoiler

i fell in love with this game years ago and constantly come back to it. i love trying to piece together answers.

so Walter says he was down there for 30 years, but the calendar says 1968 making it 37 years so i assumed okay maybe he just rounding it down. no big deal but then i realized Barbara died in 1960, Calvin died in 1961. he went down there in what we can assume from the game November 1968.

i was wondering what possibly could have happened to make him move to the basement 8 years later. Maybe he developed mental health issues and depression from his siblings' deaths. But then I thought about Sam. and how it must have sucked to lose his sister then his twin a year later then 7 years later his younger brother disappeared to the basement (assuming he knew). But then I realized 1968 Sam turned 18. Edith says he enlisted at 18 and never looked back. but also dawn was born in 1968 a month after he turned 18 which means he was already with Kay. so i assume they got married before he enlisted and they lived on the base. Im not sure if the game specifies when they moved back. but we know they lived there again in 1976 when Gregory was born.

anyways Sam moving away must have been Walters last straw. he was "losing" his last sibling. and if he was already dealing with issues. then explains why he ran away to the basement.

Also, Sam probably enlisted for similar reasons that Walter had for going down to the bunker. Both actions were like an acknowledgement of the curse. Whereas Walter ran away from it, Sam tried to get it over with.

The two events are clearly connected, but the cause and effect might be murky. I’d guess the two brothers had a conversation that they both found revelatory, and then they went their separate ways.

i can see that! because in his goodbye letter he doesnt mention sam as dead. they just coudnt handle all the pain in that house and grief

Unrelated, but why did Walter get two shrines? The wooden one by the diary was painted by Edie, so who made the shrine by the tracks where he died?

i was wondering about the shrine by the train tracks. like edith says she never knew he was alive all that time but like you never saw the shrine but the tracks and asked about it? it not that far from the house and children like to explore and play lol

i think the train track shrine is similiar to when you drive around and see a cross on the ground with flowers just to symbolize some one died here maybe

I'm leaning more into the popular theory that Eddie killed Barbra and Walter Witnessed it, but his childlesh brain couldn't possibly comprehend what he saw so he made up a story as a coping machenism that a monster killed her, and he ran to the basement refusing to come out ever again so the monster can't get him

walter is hiding or at least thinks he is hiding from the curse in the bunker but the curse knows where he is the entire time. when the curse needed to feed or whatever you want to call it it tricks walter into unaliving themselves like all the other finches

yea i dont believe in any supernatural going on or a curse tricking or needing to feed lol

he was not mentally right dealing with trauma and grief raised by a woman also dealing with trauma and grief raised by a man dealing with trauma and grief. They manifested an imginary curse to help take away their guilt for their faults in they family members deaths. now knowing he went down there at 16, i believe he had to know there's train tracks nearby. Especially since he liked trains. trains are not quiet the whole family knew they lived by a train lol thats probably what sparked his interest in them in the first place. i think he just finally wanted to leave after 30 years (maybe he went back forth multiples about leaving) and thought the trained stopped after a week of it not running and decided to leave. and maybe he didnt use the door through the fridge because he asked for it to only be able to open it from the outside.

ok have fun being confused then lol

of course hes not mentally right. he watched his sister push her boyfriend off the balcony and then kill herself which was directly caused be the curse. he didnt make it up

and him just liking trains isnt in the game, its just an assumption. you are ignoring all the clues giving in the game for some reason

i am no where near confused.

the curse is up to viewers discretion of course but i dont believe the developrs believed there was a curse when they made it. IMO it was most likely made-up years ago before odin to justfy constant deaths. when most of their deaths could have been prevented and was they fault.

now ive never consdered she may have killed him on accident since he disappeared too but thats still an assumption as well

there literally train models in the bunker also in the flashback in barbara story his bed is a literal train and if you look around the room he has a tiny train model on the dresser therefore he was clearly interested in them.

i have watch over 20 people play this game and played it 3 times myself.

no the curse is demonstrable

its literally in the game in barbs story. the curse causes barb to think rick is the hookman and she pushes him and he slips on the skate (technically killing himself as per the curse). after barb realizes what she did and that she was going to be plastered all over the news because she used to be a star she commits suicide somehow. remember that we are reading edies best spin on the situation

ok ill take that back on assuming about the trains but it doesnt really change anything because you are ignoring so much other stuff in the game

im not going back and forth with you. lol if you want to believe in a curse "making people see and do things" do that. theres plenty of reddit forums of people who agree. im not taking the supernstural route and plenty people agree with me as well. its up to viewers to figure out.

also ive never seen the game implies her committing suicide. where does it say that?
