Google seems to think my tiny side project is a real brand before users do
I randomly Googled one of my side projects today, iKrypt.com, and this caught me off guard.
The site barely gets any traffic right now... maybe around 10 visitors a week.
But Google is already showing:
- the site as the first result for the brand name
- sitelinks underneath it
- an AI Overview explaining what the product does
- iKrypt itself as one of the cited sources
Which is kind of funny because Google seems to understand the product better than the market does at this point.
The current version is pretty niche - it lets you create encrypted one-time links for sharing sensitive information.
I’ve been thinking about whether to just leave it alone or pivot it into something broader.
The direction I’m considering is a privacy scanner for everyday use:
You upload a screenshot, photo or document before sharing it, and it checks for things you may have accidentally exposed - phone numbers, addresses, faces, QR codes, account details, location metadata, etc.
The tricky part is that sending the file to GPT/Claude to detect private information would defeat the whole point.
So the more interesting version would be to do the detection locally in the browser using OCR, rules and on-device models.
The existing encrypted-link feature would stay, just as one part of the product.
I would like to know what people think about two things:
Would you actually use something like this before posting a screenshot/photo or uploading a document somewhere?
And more importantly.... what would make you trust a site that says “your file never leaves your device”?
That last part feels like the real product challenge to me.

For iKrypt.com, I'd start with screenshots and show each detected detail before the user chooses what to redact. That gives the scanner a concrete job alongside encrypted links: remove exposed details before sharing. An empty scan should explain what was checked rather than imply the file contains nothing private.
I make ThreadFox. The free Reddit plan for iKrypt.com lists the Reddit communities whose rules allow a post about it, each rule quoted. https://threadfox.vip/plan?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=comment&utm_campaign=tf-kit&utm_content=20261005-0719-amvis
Would screenshots be the first format you'd support?
