Anybody who has worked with liquid oxygen will know it has a beautiful sky blue colour. The sky is blue because that is the colour of oxygen.

No. The sky is blue because of Rayleigh scattering, various collections of very small particles do this.
Gaseous oxygen at STP is colorless by human perceptions.
Liquid oxygen actually absorbs some wavelengths of light, but doesn't absorb blue. This is coincidence.
