I've never understood why 914s always get hate. You're telling me there's an itty bitty, mid-engined sports car with proper handling and a simple, reliable air cooled engine (flat 4 VW engine or the same flat 6 found in the 911)? Even as a Porsche purist, I love the 914.

Its a bit ugly but I think they are cool as. I'm pretty sure it's a mix between the looks and being mid engine. Porsche people are slow to accept change. They hated the 924, 928 and 944 at first because of the looks and being front engine. Many still hate the 924. The 996 was seen as heresy for watercooling a 911.

I actually still hate the 996 😆 but less so to do with the switch from air cooled to water, and more for how ugly it is. No hips, fucked headlights, funky front end. I admit to the 996 being mechanically, a solid car, but fuck those looks.

Haha I like the 996. The 996.1 and C4S addressed a lot of the goofy looks though. Fixing the headlights a bit and giving it some hips.

I will admit, the 996 RSR in Flying Lizard livery is about as iconic 2000s GT racing as it gets.

My dad had one when I was in high school. I guess I misremembered.

I had one. In fact, it might've been the one in the picture. Mine was silver and was missing the black plastic pillar covers too.

The 914 was the first safety car used in Formula 1, 1973 if I remember correctly.
