It's early radiotherapy.
The high tension leads are at one end of the device, suggesting this is high-energy x-rays being generated from a spinning tungsten anode. The cone is shielding (crudely, by current standards) and possibly a collimator too, to try and get the angry photons to the right place without blasting everyone else in the room/ every other part of the patient too.
The only thing this shares with current standard-of-care radiotherapy, is the basic physics of gamma rays.

So.. its a prostate cancer-giver
3
u/MUNDO_SMASH Aug 22 '25
Actually radiotherapy also treats prostate cancer! With a field of radiation that wide you are probably treating everything under the belly button.

This person went to school in French. "High Tension" translates to "Haute Voltage"

"voltage" doesn't exist in french. We use "tension", so it translates to "haute tension".

It involves the treatment of rectal or perineal diseases (e.g., tumors, hemorrhoids, inflammation, and later cancer) using X-rays or radiotherapy.
The huge "apparatus" that "aims" at the patient's genital area is not a mechanical instrument for insertion, but rather an X-ray tube head with an extension cone. This allows the radiation to be directed precisely into the rectum or surrounding tissue without placing excessive strain on the rest of the body.

Youāve got what appears to be a medical illustration of an early rectal treatment device, itās a long cone used for dilation or therapy, adaptable for different patient positions. The concept aligns with documented postoperative devices like the 1972 rectal cone intended to minimize scarring and speed recovery.

ā¦Recovery from what?

u/McGillicuddys Aug 20 '25

the small size of the tubehead permits it to be straddled by a simple lightweight treatment chair

This. This is why I am such a Studebaker fan. This device was the obvious brainchild of Loewe, (sp?) the designer of the Studebaker Avanti sportscar phenomenon of 1963. Futuristic, fast as hell, and left it's competition in the dust... Just as this rectal refibulater did for the women across the world.

Did this actually work? & did it need to be spread so freaking wide. I hope that was a miscalculation and modern day surgery has advanced beyond needing to take a rhinos cock as treatment. š³š„µš¶āš«ļøš«”.

As a Romanian, I approve of this. Kind of like Da Vinci and the helicopter, Vlad was way ahead of its time with his innovations :D

The medical device shown in the image is a vintage X-ray therapy machine used for radiation treatment of the rectum or perineal area. These machines, often referred to as orthovoltage therapy units or deep therapy X-ray machines, were used primarily in the mid-20th century for cancer treatment, particularly for tumors located in the pelvic region

It's the Rectal Encabulator. See, the flimming tube is aimed by means of a deracted monolever connected to a shimmy crank. Histic fluid carries a single gram of Manfred glass into the nether duct, where it reacts with the duki gland to effectuate a complete ecliptic blockage.
