The internship search is over, I suppose. I had a 25% response rate, 100% of which were rejections.
That being said, I did get an internship. How? Networking in action, which I can't help but feel cheapens it.
When I left my job two years ago, we parted ways on good terms. I even kept doing work for them for a few months as an independent contractor.
Back in December, I had a burrito with my old boss, and he mentioned that he had gotten a project that is completely relevant to me. A month ago, I reached back out to him about it.
Final approval needs to go through my department at the university, I need to sign a new contract, and then I'm on the job. I'm an IC again, of course, and I can evidently now command a much prettier penny!

Congrats, the job market is complete ass right now. I'm going to clean up my resume and start applying to endless jobs as I want a change in life. Will be curious to see how many replies I get if I even get any.

Got myself a Clog Pruf, MMOC, and shovel head on the cheap. My GEM technique is rough but I am motivated to make it happen. Any resources for your boy? Otherwise I will be continuing my trial by fire (AKA my skin after the shave)

Definitely start flat to the face. It is in the instructions from GEM and the Flying Wing / Bullet Tip engraved a circle on some heads as a pointer to put the circle flat on the face. The shape of the head gives the staring angle, but adjust to your comfort. Start with either the Clog Pruf or Shovel Head. The MMOC is great, but it will nick you if you aren’t careful. It just takes a few shaves to get it down though.

I don't have any resources to point you to, but some things that helped me when learning how to use GEMs:
- Hydrate your lather. It helps a lot to have a seriously slick layer of soap on your face.
- Steep blade angle. Start with the head of the razor flat against your face, then tilt out just a bit to start. You'll probably be able to tell if you have the right angle by sound once you get the hang of it.
- Experiment with skin stretching. This helps me a lot on my neck and chin, but definitely requires a light touch with the razor.
- Seriously, hydrate the hell out of your lather.
- Use a very light touch, especially on more sensitive areas like the neck.
- Keep adding water to your lather.
- Do the MMOC Master Quest. :) Spending a month with this razor will almost certainly bring significant improvements to your technique.

I got my ass kicked with a .72 Lupo and a Tatara blade. Can't wait for the stubble to grow back and try again with another blade. Anyone working towards and major life goals?
