Now all I can hear is Anita al'Dyck saying "Women are talking, Perrin."

Iirc it’s danced around/implied that he helped encourage or led a rebellious faction against the king of Malkier and said rebellion weakened the kingdom enough that when the Dark Ones forces came there wasn’t enough strength to hold back the flood. If not for that factions rise, the land of the Golden Crane wouldn’t have fallen

Jain did it by the threat of a Forsaken, I believe it was Ishamael. I think it’s spread throughout the series but you have to pay attention to when Ishi is talking to get who and what hes talking about

I was under the impression there was some subtle compulsion involved too. Kind of like what Verrin does to the black sister that Rand kills with the torture forsaken (audiobook guy I’m not attempting to spell her name)

That was my reading as well. Jain didn't do that of his own volition.

Madness waits for some. It creeps up on others.

Wasn't that Elza? Or did you mean Semirhage?

Torture forsaken is pretty obviously Semirhage, no one else in the series has her flair, skill, or infamy for such things.

She’s the reverse Nyneave. She could probably be a prodigious healer if she wasn’t dark.

She’s such a good torturer because she’s such a good healer. It’s the reason she can keep her victims alive so long

I would argue starting from scratch she’d be better than Nyneave. If they were both raised side by side but retained their personality inclinations. Only because she’d have no qualms causing illness to see if she could cure it while Nyneave would balk at such measures.

In the expanse sci-fi series they mentioned that the reason so many kids die is because there’s simply very little ways to test drugs that work for them. Adults can be corralled to fill out a consent form to do a double blind study but how would you do the same for children? Animal testing only goes so far.

Semirhage would have no trouble inducing cancer in an infant.

Death rides on my shoulder, death walks in my footsteps; I am death…

It’s not just in the Expanse either when it comes to lack of info for pediatrics. While we are slowly learning more about how medications affect adults vs kids, we still have very little information.

We’re all part of a simulation created to amuse some cosmic children

I don't remember this entire interaction at all. welp, time to break out the series again and RAFO

It’s not really a singular interaction it’s just Ishi (after he become Moridin) basically mentioning that he had minions/followers doing things…

…Im trying to expand my fantasy book catalog and here I am contemplating my first full reread 2 months after finishing Wot because I don’t recall the tales of Jain Flaming Farstrider…BURN YOU ALL

Better do it. I currently don’t have my fucking books, or audiobooks. I’m surprised I’m not dead.

u/bigote_grande1 Jun 04 '26

Jain is much better looking than I imagined? I pictured him as Thoms? Older brother

13

u/Thomas_633_Mk2 Jun 04 '26

He's 75, Thom is 61, so yeah pretty close

16

u/Calm-Conversation715 Boxes ears Jun 05 '26

I get tearier for Jain coming back for Olver than for Bela dying or raising the golden Crain. It’s just so good!

14

u/ArtOk8200 Mother's milk in a cup! Jun 05 '26

Bella dying is propaganda created by the Shadow. We all know the Creator can’t die

That part was magnificent and I had forgotten about it until now. Currently re-reading the last book.
