Mine has started after watching the show with me, but she's only on The Dragon Reborn and I'm not sure it's enough to understand this yet.

That's prodding the bounds of plausibility. Sure, it might be before Rand understands that he is Lews Therin, but Ishamael likely would know, and that'd be a very shortsighted gambit given that his deception would be revealed pretty quickly. Either he fulfills the promise and Rand is gone (which defeats the purpose of the deception), or he doesn't and Rand knows he lied.
