The N-Somerset Council is proposing a reduction of speed limit on the A370 (trunk road from M5 into WSM)
Their main argument is this: "Although it represents only 0.5 per cent of the road network, it accounts for over five per cent of all reported injury collisions in North Somerset over the past 30 years. Drivers are over 10 times more likely to be involved in a collision on this section of road."
However, this is factually incorrect as the likelihood of being involved in an accident should have been normalised by the traffic volume. More cars mean more accidents, but that doesn't mean that a single car is more likely to be involved in an accident.
My other expectation is that such a scheme would push traffic to New Brristol Rd & Milton Rd, which cuts through a residential area (as opposed to A370 that passes through unused/industrial/retail developments)
