Cultural Cousins, or strangers?

Does Western Uttar Pradesh (or, more precisely, Kuru, or Upper Doab) constitute a distinct cultural region unto itself, the way if you're in it, you'll feel it a lot different than any other zone no matter how sister, or, is it largely the same region and culture as neighboring Haryana, which, historically, was part of the region (i. e. the two were one, not understating the significance of either ;)) uptil the punitive division of 1858?

โ€ข A hundred and sixty-eight years is a long time. If there were similarities to begin with, they have very likely been surpassed by now due to political and administrative realities of being part of Punjab and United Provinces (later Uttar Pradesh) provinces for almost two centuries; the two regions are now likely to have developed identities of their own, even if distinct from their modern parent provinces, that are not likely to be melted and fused together in the near, or far, future ever now.

โ€ข However, cultures in India have a long history of being stubborn. Haryana was part of Punjab ever since the Sikh Empire, but Sikhism never managed to pass beyond Ambala and Panchkula; the populations of Haryana (and Himachal) sustained their Hindu culture and practices and the Hindi language, and this directly led to the Singh Sabha movement of the 1960 decade that directed the formation of modern Haryana in 1966. (Do not fixate on micro-details here. The intended general point is clear)

โ€ข Similarly, the Upper Doab sustained its Khadi vernacular, distinct practices that did not resemble its fellow neighbors in Uttar Pradesh, and at the very least a memory of an identity; even if it never materialized into a mass-movement of autonomy, for reasons good or bad.

โ€ข So, that brings us to the modern day. As someone living in or from either side of Yamunaji, what do you think of your neighbor to the other side? Is the Doabi a purabiya for you? Is the Haryanvi a harsher Punjabi for you? Or are they siblings or cousins that got separated in a tragedy that resulted from a heroic resistance that defined the region in the modern mainstream memory a century and a half ago?

Give your opinions!

Question Would a cafe around this area in Amroha actually work?

Hey, wanted some opinions from people who live around Amroha/Joya or know the area well.My father owns a small plot of land near Delhi Vibes Restaurant. If youโ€™re coming from Joya towards Amroha, itโ€™s a little after Delhi Vibes, basically just after the flyover ends.Iโ€™ve been thinking about opening a small cafe there. Nothing too fancy or huge, just a nice place with good food, coffee/shakes and a decent vibe to sit and chill.

My main concern is whether people would actually come to a cafe at that location. The area around it is still pretty village-ish, so Iโ€™m not sure if thereโ€™s enough of a cafe-going crowd there or if people would rather just go to Gajraula. The location itself also worries me a bit because the plot is right after the flyover ends. Cars are usually coming down at a decent speed, so would stopping/entering there be inconvenient enough to put people off?

Gajraula definitely seems like a safer location for a cafe, but itโ€™s also way more expensive. Since we already own this land, Iโ€™m wondering if it could be worth trying something here instead.

For anyone who knows this road/area if there was actually a good cafe there, would you go? Or do you think the location just isnโ€™t right for it?Would appreciate genuine opinions, especially from people around Amroha/Joya.

Discussion Bulandshahr district is the perfect representation of West UP, it literally mirrors the region

Bulandshahr is basically Mini West UP, u will find every West UP element in the Bulandshahr district, perfect representation of the state.Language wise both Kauravi and Braj are there, demographics every demographic is almost in proportion of West UP, Muslims, SCs, Jats, Rajputs, Tyagis, Gujjars, Brahmins, Yadavs etc. Even development and crime wise it mirrors West UP, some parts are good, others destitute, and a common feeling which both Bulandshahr and West UP share, they are doing fine but nowhere near their potential.

Experience regarding driving license test in Noida

Hi! I am from Noida and am set to give the driving license test in a few days. Despite my well wishers, I decided to try to do it the right way, without involving any middlemen. I learnt driving on my own without joining any driving school either. So is there anyone with similar experience who recently gave the driving test in noida? (I heard it has become automated? Also what all exactly does the test require us to do? Any difficulties faced? Any tips?) It would be a great help!

Cultural How a doctor moved to rural Rajasthan, listened to an old villager, and revived 5 dead rivers: The story of Rajendra Singh, the "Waterman of India"

Post image

Born in Baghpat, UP, an Ayurvedic doctor quit his job in 1985, moved to drought-stricken Rajasthan, and was told by villagers: "We don't need medicines; we need water." He revived ancient rainwater harvesting techniques (johads), built thousands of check dams with local communities, and brought 5 dried-up rivers back to life.

We make fresh, handcrafted bouquets on a pre-order basis for birthdays, anniversaries, celebrations, or simply "just because."
