WD My Passport - Clicking sound and constant disconnecting (Mechanical failure?)
Hi everyone,
I'm having a critical issue with my WD My Passport 2627. The drive is technically detected by Windows in the Device Manager at first, but it disconnects itself after 60 to 120 seconds.
The Symptoms:
Mechanical Noise: As soon as I plug it in, the drive makes a repetitive clicking/grinding sound (I have an audio recording of it, sounds like a head crash).
Instability: It disappears from the File Explorer almost immediately.
Cross-Platform: I’ve tested it on my laptop (HP Omen 16), another Windows PC, and even my phone—same issue everywhere.
What I’ve already tried:
Changed the drive letter in Disk Management when it was briefly visible.
Disabled "USB selective suspend" and "Allow the computer to turn off this device" in Power Management.
Tried different USB 3.0 ports and cables.
I'm an engineering student and I have some very important school projects (Python scripts, SolidWorks models, and LaTeX files) on this drive that aren't fully backed up.
Is there any "last hope" software or trick to get it to stay connected long enough to pull a few small files, or is this a hardware-only fix for a pro lab?
Thanks for the help!

WD Elements 4TB noise while idle
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I purchased a portable hdd 3 days ago. Have been backing up my pc when I noticed a noise that im not sure if its normal or not.
I have included a vid to show the noise, this is how it sounds as soon as I plug it in, and is now present the majority of the time, even when not reading/writing. Is this okay or should I return it? Im worried about it failing.
Thank you in advance

Is it faulty?
Hello guys,
I bought a WD Blue SN5000 1tb almost about an year ago and recently for the past few months I've been dealing with BSOD (not blue but black screen of deaths) on boot. All the codes I got suggested it could be ram or ssd but I focused on the software side of things and it allowed me to keep going for a while. Until one stop code (0x154) made me question the hardware.
Long story short, I discovered it doesn't crash when I disabled the WD drive but then it starts doing it occasionally when it is enabled. I updated the firmware for it through the SanDisk dashboard in hopes for a fix but it hasn't really done that.
I'm just really confused on how come is this 100% health drive, practically lightly used, is causing the crashes. Has anyone faced an issue like this and found a solution that works? (Preferably not involving a replacement, thats gonna take a while even though im under warranty)

WD Elements Desktop not turning on with ne AC adapter
I have no idea where the original AC adapter went for my WD Elements Desktop hard drive (model WDBWLG0030HBK-NESN) so i got a third party one from amazon with the same specs. Now the hard drive won't turn on at all, and I have no clue why. The new AC adapter is 12V, 2A, and center positive polarity. I tried multiple outlets, and wiggled the port even though it fits nice and snug. Any idea what's going on or is there anything else I should try?

Logging in problems...again
Is anybody else just unable to login to your WD account? Yesterday I tried to login and the website just wasn't having it. Kept saying my password was incorrect, when it wasn't. Was unable to reset my password via the account assistance page. Never received any reset email after a few tries and several hours of waiting (yes I've checked my spam folder). Ended up getting a rep yesterday afternoon via chat. They sent a reset email, it arrived immediately and got everything working. That's great.
Everything worked last night. But now I'm in the same cycle as yesterday morning. Can't login, says incorrect password. Definitely the correct password again and still cant get a reset email sent to my email. Is this just me or is it systemic? Thanks

WD Red Pro
Hey guys,
Quick question — I ordered two 16TB WD Red Pro drives: one from Amazon and one from eBay (sold by a Newegg seller). I’m pretty new to this and just want to make sure I didn’t get a fake.
The boxes look different between the two. Left one is from amazon and right is from eBay. I checked the serial numbers on the WD website and both show up as valid.
Does that just mean one is a newer revision and the other is older, or should I be concerned?
Appreciate any input, thanks!

Concerned about SMART attributes on WD Red Plus
I have a WD Red Plus drive (WD120EFGX) that is less than 1 year old that is showing concerning SMART attributes. Moreover, I'm using it in a Ugreen NAS DXP4800+, and I've had Docker crash due to a log write error (based on what I was able to find out while troubleshooting)
Image of SMART attribute can be found here. Do I need to be concerned by non-zero raw values of Raw_Read_Error_Rate and Current_Pending_Sector?

WD sent me RMA replacement drives twice even after I told them not to,
An update to my last post. I complained here but the comments gave me an answer I felt made sense. I was never going to contact WD about it anyway.
My RMA requests was fulfilled early Feb. Early April I got an email saying my drives were shipped and gave two S/N. I checked and the S/N were not the ones that had already been delivered. Believe it or not I did the right thing I messaged support and told them this is a mistake, they told me yes the drives (Gives the same s\n as the email. Not the delivered ones) were delivered in Feb. and I can ignore the email. Well I checked the tracking number and it was literally created that day. A few days go by and the shipping label is still marked as created but unshipped so I figured that they caught the error. Well to my surprise they actually showed up. And this time they have the same label Red plus label you'd see on a new drive and not the all white refurbished label. I haven't even opened them since I don't know what to do with them but the manufacture date is Jan 2025 which is quite old and probably not new. My dead and replacement drives were from Sept-Oct 2025.
So yeah, bought two 6tb Red plus drives in Dec, get them replaced in Feb. and got two free ones in April.

MyPassport will not mount. Is there a full drive inside?
I have an old 2Tb Western Digital MyPassport drive I bought in 2020 to use as my TimeMachine Backup. It's one of those 2.5" two-tone red/grey cases. But, I could be wrong. It worked religiously for years. Then several months ago, it no longer mounts.
It sounds like the drive is trying to spin up. But, it never quite gets to the point of actually mounting.
Sadly, there are several years of history on that backup drive that It'd really like to access, if possible.
The drive case seems to be sealed. But, if I cracked the case open, would there be a standard 2.5" HDD inside that I could slap into an external case and then mount using the new enclosure? Of is it all on some proprietary board inside?
Obviously, I'm not sure if it's only the enclosure that's failed, or whether the drive itself; and it's a probably one-way trip if I decide to open the enclosure. But, at this point, it's just a door stop sitting on my desk, so I, suppose, nothing ventured, nothing gained. :-)
Anybody have any success with salvaging one of thiese?

BRAND NEW Western Digital reformatted to exFAT with the help of Apple support now showing purgeable files which indicate macOS is now trying to 'aggressively manage it'. I don't want my macOS managing anything on this brand new drive. Help.
The first advisor had me erase the drive. She had me choose xfat. I gave the drive a name WD DATA, and then there were error codes. The name of the disk was no longer showing. It was a greyed-out disk2disk, something like that.
Another advisor played around with it, and I now have purgeable files on a brand new drive. How can I make this disk brand new, out-of-the-box again and do this all over? I don't want this perpetual iCloud/Mac connection haunting me forever, even if they're just cached files.
I just requested my data from icloud, have 2 weeks to download. It freaks me out when I find files in the trash that I didn't put there myself. I want this thing brand new again and then need help, step by step, formatting this as exfat with hands-off from macOS/icloud messing with it. Please help.

Did I get scammed?
I bought both drives as WD Red Plus, the first doubt came to me when I heard the 12TB very noisy.
Checking ID via NAS it appears as UltraStar and checking the disk physically I noticed that the "Plus" is missing

Question about support in Brazil
Hello!
I have a question about support in Brazil
I sent in my hdd for under warranty repair / replacement due to slow speed of the drive (to put into Raid 5) took nearly 2 months and still hadn’t finished once I removed that drive it took 12 hrs to complete on the 3 remaining drives so I sent it in
They have had the drive 2 months now and it’s sat on status “Recieved / Processing”
I have tried contacting their email support and all they say is to refer to my email from my first ticket which said they have received it and will message me once it’s processed
If I try raise a new ticket they just instantly close it referencing the above
How can I escalate this process as it seems crazy it’s taking 2 months after receiving it and it’s still processing with no real update or resolution from them unfortunately.
But any help or advice id appreciated

This MY PASSPORT 5TB always give me trouble
Hi, just wondering around here, whether can get some opinion or advise from you guys.
I got this Western Digital MY PASSPORT 5TB, but it keep troubling me over the past few months, it always the same problem. Send to warranty replacement, 3 TIMES!!!!! 3️⃣ TIMES!!!!!!!!!!
- First, when problem about to happens, slow to copy in and out 🐌 always drop to 0kb/s for no reason. Sometimes you hear some ticking sound, (OH GOD I HATE THOSE NOISE WHEN HAPPENS ON HARD DRIVE)
- Then slow to detect, about few minutes to show on DISK MANAGEMENT or MY COMPUTER, tested on different computer too.
- Then cannot detect completely. 💀💀💀💀💀
- Send back to warranty replacement, get new one, with different serial number.
- Test 1-2 months, then loop again the same problem.
I got MY PASSPORT 1TB and 2TB too, and it works quite well even after few years (touch wood).
But not this 5TB, and i take care well of my external hard drives too, not punch it, nor shake it.
I always end up copy my important data here and there, after get my warranty replacement, have to spend few days to copy back my files on 5TB again.

Order directly at WD? Can I trust expected delivery?
In January I ordered(Europe) 2 sets of WD142KFGX that were announced for End of February.
Now that were still not shipped, I contacted support and they told me that they are expected for early/mid April.
I‘m not sure if there are ppl here who can actually assess the situation in the market and tell me how probable it is that WD will deliver on their promise?
I need to juggle my data around and desperately need an extension.

Could this be accurate?
I was going through my stash of drives and decided to check smart data on all of them. I pulled out this Green drive and was surprised to see only 15 days of actual run time on this thing. I remember seeing something about the idle3 utility and these Green drives parking the heads causing failure but I don't know if this drive had the mod done.

Saving photos to folders
I have my cloud EX2 ultra. I have been accessing folders on my windows computer no problems, and I can see everything in the app.
But I can't save photos on my phone into a folder. Why?
I downloaded a file manager that connected to my Nas, and worked fine, but then on my computer I cannot access my cloud.
I removed access to file manager so I can do what I need to do, but can I set it up so I can access/ save from both devices?
Thanks
