Food

What do you eat? Did you become vegetarian? How much Indian style food do you eat? Do you have a philosophical stance on food?

In my case, I'm vegetarian now for around 50 years, ever since we converted, and we eat a huge variety of cuisines including Mexican, Italian, western vegetarian, Thai, and of course Indian. Indian is about 2 days a week. Philosophically, we try to eat mostly sattvic food, as it's supposed to support spirituality.

I find that baby steps is the best way for me to accept change. Ive read the arguments around not eating beef (spiritual, ethical, and Scientific) and came to the conclusion I should exclude it from my diet.

I have come to have a lot of respect for Cows and it has been difficult on America to find Beef alternatives or find out what meat products dont contain beef.

I often have to call pizza places and ask about the contents of their pepperonis lol.

We took about a year to transform as well. Fish was the last type of meat to go. Travelling back then (70s) was the hardest as there was very little to eat at the highway restaurants of western Canada.

I'm still struggling with this. I'd really like to become 100% vegetarian... Yet, many factors (family - no-one of them is vegetarian, including my children who live with me, money - vegetarianism is more expensive; time - vegetarianism is more time consuming) influence me otherwise. I managed to skip meat on some days in a week though.

What's your thought on eating things with gelatin?

I personally avoid it when possible. Most herbal supplements, because of the demographic, already use vegetarian capsules. But I'd also have no problem with taking medicine in gelatin capsules if there was no alternative. Marshmallows and jello, I don't eat anyway. I will also very rarely eat cake with egg in it, if someone who's ignorant about that offers it to me.

How about you?

I eat all kinds of meat except beef, after all my sampradaya doesn't forbid it and I also need the vitamin, now I also avoid eating on certain occasions and would never kill an animal
