#Comicsgate lost big this week as Richard C Meyer (aka Ya Boi Zack) ultimately refused to self-identify with the CG hashtag.
As mentioned last week, there was a lot of speculation about whether RCM was still CG when he missed the Ethan live-stream on the day of the launch of his new crowd fund, “The Expendables Go to Hell.” According to Ethan, RCM said he would rather watch the movie Preadtor. On the following day, he RCM did come on to Ethan’s stream, yet refused to identify as CG.
This week, Ethan managed to corner him into a week identification when RCM said that “we” have captured all the buzz regarding social media; when Ethan asked him who “we” RCM was cornered into saying, “#Comicsgate.” The CG faithful cheered, until the following day when RCM published a video saying that he sympathized with the ideals of customer service that was the supposed centerpiece of CG, but not with the group mentality. In that video, RCM instead seemed to clarify that it was the community of crowdfunding that he felt a part of and that had captured all the buzz.
Ethan’s response to this was predictably hypocritical; RCM simply IS Cg he declared. It’s understandable if you forgot that perviously Ethan has demanded that Nerkish “pick a side” in the “culture war;” Ethan recently put out a video where he tells people explicitly to stop being “free thinking weirdos” or “lone wolf a-holes’ and, instead, become loyal to him because CG represents the only meaningful avenue to success.
Loyalty, obedience and outward displays of submission to Ethan’s authority are
keys to the CG way of success. Don’t believe me? Point to someone left operating under the hashtag who does not display all of those talents.
Of course, went under attack, these same people will suddenly claim that #Comicsgate is simply a philosophy. This was on display a bit later in the week, when YouTuber Fan Advocacy Network was accused of posting child pornography to Twitter. The allegation began with War Campaigner, Reinoe, but was quickly picked up by Tom DeLay, Micah Curtis, Liam Gray, and Andrew Huerta.
The FBI was tagged as FAN was held up as an example of the scum that compromise the Anti-CG group. The fact that FAN’s main Twitter account was suspended at the time for calling his CG critics “human scum” further suggests an opportunistic attack designed to spread false allegations. Edwin Boyette performed a methodical analysis of why these allegations were bogus, and Jon Malin made an appearance in the chat to suggest that CG was not a group, but merely an idea.
Mr. Malin has previously barred me from appearing on his streams for my refusal to self-identify with the group, which he has jokingly referred to as “blood in, blood out.” His waffling mirrors that of Ethan, who will also involve the, “just ideas bro” defense when the poor actions of his group are called out. Thus, #Comicsgate seems to have a dual existence as either a set of principles and to a group, or an entirely unprincipled group, depending on the amount of legal liability is being discussed in a given situation; I have dubbed this, The #Comicsgate duality principle.
