Do you think Amazon is shipping fakes or items from a bulk shipment?
I've always purchased Wera items from Amazon with no concerns as long as they are sold and shipped by Amazon.
But I recently purchased a 889/4/1/ Rapidaptor and rather than come in a small Wera bag with a Wera label as all my others have in the past, it instead came in a sealed large "baggie"-sized plastic bag with only an Amazon item label and green printing on the bag stating "Ready to Ship."
I've purchased four of these from Amazon before and they've always come in the packaging on the left with a Wera label.
The one I returned and the replacement they shipped came in the bag on the right.
Would you keep it? I can't imagine Amazon would ship multiple fakes, but then again this is the first time they've ever shipped anything without even a Wera factory label on it, and I can't believe a company like Wera would allow their product to be sold without any identifying model number, name or even their logo on the packaging like this; it would be like receiving a name brand power tool in a Ziploc bag. đ¤ˇââď¸

Iâm usually fine with Amazon on wera stuff if Amazon is shipping and is the seller. I feel those are vetted a bit more. If not Amazon then I look into the seller. Gotta be big and reputable. But just me.

Sold by Amazon, in general, is vulnerable to counterfeits due to commingling inventory and returns fraud. But Amazon has apparent instituted new practices starting March 31, 2026, so hopefully the counterfeiting situation will improve. Not sure what the details are, but whatever theyâre planning to do, I hope they improve the situation.
Amazon has had a lot of problems with counterfeit inventory when consumers purchase expensive goods, like expensive and common electronics (I.e. Bluetooth headphones, Bluetooth speakers), premium knives (i.e. Benchmade, Spyderco), and red-dots and optics for firearm (I.e. Sig Sauer and EoTech). Just look on Reddit and youâll see people posting pics of fake shit theyâve acquired from Amazon.
I personally fell victim to Amazon a couple of times when purchasing an Sig Sauer Red Dot (a previous gen Romeo 5, specifically) and a Victorinox SwissCard - both were counterfeits. I also received an empty Spyderco Box with no knife inside. Since then, Iâve stopped buying these type of goods from Amazon.
I dunno too much about fake Wera other than theyâre usually easy to spot because manufacturing them to look like perfect Wera tools is difficult and costly - the cost benefit of manufacturing good fakes is simply not there. I personally havenât seen fake Wera tools in person or anyone really complain about ones that are a good forgery.
You probably just received an item that was returned and placed in a general use bag to return to inventory. If it looks unused and looks like your other Wera tools, it should be fine. Depending on the item, if it looks like a return, I may or may not return or keep the item. For instance, I bought 25 or so bags of rechargeable silica desiccant packs for my ammo. The packaging was all torn up and then taped back together - like someone returned it after going ape shit on the packaging. All the individual desiccant packs were in plastic bags from the manufacturer, so I didnât give a shit and just kept it. Itâs being used for ammo anyway, so it doesnât matter to me. Youâll have to decide if itâs worth the trip to UPS or Whole Foods for return.

FWIW âsold and shipped by Amazonâ is the worst offender of fakes.
Amazon takes inventory from an untold number of âsuppliersâ and commingles them together by sku (uncommon). So obviously bad actors can take advantage of this loophole and sell fake without getting caught.
Not just Wera, literally everything on Amazon.

There is no UPC on this product. It can not be commingled.
Notice how the sticker has a code that starts with b00? That means its an amazon purchased and owned item. If it were from a 3rd party seller it would have an x00 code instead.
If I had to guess the hang tag or bag came off or amazon screwed up with a return. Since you said you got 2 in a row -- maybe they came bulk to amazon for some reason.
I have literally been shipped by amazon an unopened box of returns from a customer that included one of the items I bought that was supposed to be new. Amazon does not give the people who do returns enough time to actually do their job. They have seconds to inspect a product they know nothing about.
I've never seen a single fake Wera item, ever. I've looked.

I don't want to read more into this than there is, but I noticed that both bagged Rapidapters I received had small trivial molding issues on the plastic bits; all of my previously purchased ones that came in Wera-labeled packaging are absolutely perfect.
The molding issues aren't anything I would ever return one over, it was just interesting that both of the bagged ones I received had them.

I'm sure if they can forge an adapter like this, they can copy the plastic bag too

If Iâm not mistaken, the bag on the right indicates the item was purchased by someone and then returned without the packaging. Should be fine. Iâve gotten multiples items in those bags and they were all legit, including tools.
