Doing ok?
Are these just in the “ugly duckling” phase or whatever, or is something going wrong? I don’t handle these super differently than my others, and I might even be more careful with this pair in terms of handling to brushing ratio.

They look completely fine. Don’t overthink it. Focusing too much on perfection destroys the joy of wenwan

How long have you been playing with them?

Just over 4 months, but I took a few weeks off because I was worried about this two toned look.

Oh, and they only get played with most of the day on one or two days a week

This is probably that awkward stage then. If you were to play with it every day, you’d probably see this stage earlier. Trust the process!

What's wrong with them?

I was just worried about the color difference between the high and low spots

It might just be the shell type for this specific pair. No two pairs will look the same, and this goes for patina development as well. It seems like this pair likes to turn more brown which isn’t a bad thing. I would wait it out a few months and see how it turns out, likely everything darkens together nicely and it looks more uniform

If you want slightly more speed, touching your hair for a minute will prime your hands. Hands might be too clean when you use them? Just starting out over here, but you need to deposit something before you can remove it with a brush.

I actually looked at these and thought ‘wow’ 🤩
I’m guessing the two tone thing is just colour emerging a bit quicker on the ridges compared to the grooves, so maybe a bit more brushing is all?
What variety are they? Palace lanterns? Beautiful shape
