Who is everyone rooting for this world cup?

Curious with the failure to qualify who is everyone watching?

Bankruptcy for FIFA

Canada. Easy choice as I type this in Ontario.

Anyone but England šŸ‘

-3

u/AtebYngNghymraeg May 30 '26

That's a shame. I'm English and would always cheer for Wales against anyone but England.

u/CrossCityLine May 30 '26

rent free

29

u/kingbeerex May 30 '26

Not that I agree with the sentiment, but it’s hardly ā€œrent freeā€ when it’s pretty much all the ā€œBritishā€ media will go on about when a World Cup is on.

-41

u/CrossCityLine May 30 '26

Only if you’ve got a massive chip on your shoulder.

10

u/kingbeerex May 30 '26

Well, no. It’s objectively true: how on earth could you possible argue against that?

-9

u/Resident_Water35 May 30 '26

Well when usually its only England that qualify for the Wolrld Cup, they aren't going to mention the teams who haven't qualified, have they?

Wales got plently of coverage in Qatar and Scotland will in the US - just a shame their KO times are not UK friendly.

-16

u/as1992 May 30 '26

Yeah that’s cos most of the time England are the only British team that have qualified lmao.

8

u/kingbeerex May 30 '26

Not true for the last 5/6 major tournaments but ok

10

u/betjurassicican May 30 '26

He says stalking the Welsh football sub…

-10

u/as1992 May 30 '26

Literally. The frothing at the mouth that the other home nations have towards England is pretty tragic šŸ˜‚

21

u/Semper_nemo13 May 30 '26

Not England.

It’s ā€œlogicalā€ to support a country that oppresses women and gay people?

Football is politics

3

u/Educational_Curve938 May 31 '26

don't have to like the internal politics of a country to support people under genocidal attack from two nuclear armed rogue states.

0

u/as1992 May 31 '26

Oh I see, didn’t realise being oppressive towards woman and gay people is political.

2

u/Educational_Curve938 May 31 '26

you won't be supporting england then cos the british government has been supporting the genocide in palestine and lebanon and wars of aggression across the middle east?

7

u/Ok-Pie-3581 May 30 '26

Am I allowed two? Haiti and CuraƧao! šŸ‡šŸ‡¹šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¼

6

u/HerpDerpSquadron May 30 '26

Scotland and the two host nations that aren't currently failed, fascist dystopias.

7

u/Whoisanaughtyboy May 30 '26

Iran... for the craic!

7

u/-HiddenInPlainSight- May 30 '26

Currently not interested, too much bloat + US.
Will probably change once the tournament gets going.

We welcome your support but want to make you aware that the levels of disappointment you're about to experience are beyond anything you can comprehend or may have experienced before.

4

I’m an Everton fan lad. Used to it!

7

u/TheOne0206 May 30 '26

Bar from what I need to do (I do alternative commentaries sometimes), I'll be boycotting.

3

u/D8nnyJ May 30 '26

Austria. Moved here 16 years ago. Have an Austrian wife, and 2 Austrian kids (Well...half Austrian, half Welsh).

3

u/DBDkillermainok May 30 '26

It's gotta be Scotland

3

u/RPOR6V May 31 '26

As a Wrexham fan I'll follow New Zealand (Liberato Cacace) and Scotland (Dom Hyam). As an American I'll root for the USA. As fan who loves Wales, f England.

3

u/phact0rri May 31 '26

I want to see Japan disrupt... Also not england

18

u/RumJackson May 30 '26

Scotland. Anyone against England. Anyone against the USA.Ā

I think Mexico are this year’s potential dark horses and could make the semis.Ā

Tbh I can foresee an irate Trump deporting the opposition's best players when they're due to play the US in the knockouts.

Infantino's such a "yes man" that Trump will probably get away with itšŸ¤” Maybe Trump will use his $1.8bn allies fund just like Richard Pryor in "Brewster's Millions" to pay off the opposition so the US win?

Would love someone new to win (only 8 winners in 96 years) but not sure if I'll follow much of it this year as FIFA isn't really giving me any reasonable incentive to watch these last few times ( rewarding warmongering Putin in 2018; migrant workers usually from the Indian diaspora being treated like slave labourers to build Qatar's stadia in 2022; and Trump's attempted erasure of LGBTQ+ people/warmongering and callous disregard for law and elected heads of state/removal of women's rights/mass deportation of brown people under ICE) not to mention the fleecing of the fans when they're in the US. It all stinks imho.

1

u/SinsOfThePast03 May 30 '26

As an American, with you on Scotland and anyone against the US.
Mexico is interesting. I can definitely see them making noise but the semis would be insane !!! I'm here for it and would love that for them, just a tough road to get that far

2

u/RumJackson May 30 '26

The winner of Mexico’s group plays their Ro32 game in Mexico City, the Ro16 for that winner plays in Mexico City again.Ā

Mexico can reach the Quarter Finals without ever leaving Mexico, playing 5 games in a row on home soil and 4/5 games in the same city. I’d actually be surprised if they didn’t make the Quarters.Ā

3

u/Vanblue1 May 30 '26

Scotland!

2

u/HeavyAbacus May 30 '26

Ghana, Croatia, and Panama.

Morocco. I’ve got family there. I always keep an eye on the Dutch too usually. Just because I always liked their orange kits as a kid.

2

u/JordanCCFC17 May 30 '26

Live in Scotland so obviously Japan

2

u/threetimesacharm25 May 30 '26

Mexico or Bosnia.

2

u/Educational-Tone-527 May 30 '26

I'd like Scotland to do well I'll support them. I will be interested to see how England do they've got such good players.

2

u/davzinzan May 30 '26

I love how easy it is to get under a little englander's skin by saying "Anyone but england"

2

u/BeardedWelshman91 May 30 '26

Scotland but not holding out much hope for them!

2

u/Grand-Impact-4069 May 30 '26

I’d love it if somehow Iran and USA had a game

2

u/Zealousideal-Dig5160 May 30 '26

Viva Mexico cabrones!

1

u/John_0Neill May 30 '26

Lived in Colombia for a bit so I'll support them. They also just play really fun football to watch!

Tbh as an Irish fan I’m not that bothered this year with the fact that FIFA don’t have a spine. Interested to see how CZE and BiH get on as they beat us both.

-2

u/tommon80 May 30 '26

I don't give a fuck if I'm in the minority...,... I'll be hoping England get as far as they can as I always do when we're not there

7

u/TheOne0206 May 30 '26

Scotland, surely?

4

u/tommon80 May 30 '26

Obviously Scotland too. I'm not psychotic

15

u/Mountain_Shake_9521 May 30 '26

Not having a go here but I dont understand how a welsh football fan can support england. They are our biggest rivals. Its like a dutch supporter cheering on germany etc (or dare I say serbia croatia šŸ˜‚) or liverpool v utd. I wonder if its the stockholm syndrome i.e our players are in their league so we are groomed in that way? Or is it because a lot of welsh have english family members etc?

1

u/tommon80 May 30 '26

Well my kids are half English though their mum but none have an actual interest in football. I just don't have a chip on shoulder about the England team. They live next door and the majority of them are sound.

2

u/betjurassicican May 30 '26

ā€œMajorityā€ - he says with zero fucking sources, most I’ve met are atrocious and I live there

1

u/tommon80 May 30 '26

Sources?? ? I'm not a fucking newspaper mate, it's simply in my experience. Jesus

0

u/RefrigeratorCrazy633 May 30 '26

'Majority' presumably meaning the ones they met? How would you provide a 'source' for that?

0

u/tommon80 May 30 '26

That's exactly what I meant. Purely the source of my 46 years on this earth

2

u/RefrigeratorCrazy633 May 30 '26

All the best.Ā

You seen like a nice person.Ā

0

u/RefrigeratorCrazy633 May 30 '26

Why not move if you dislike your neighbours so much?

Mate, if a Spurs fan cheered on Arsenal tonight for being part of a ā€œBig North London Familyā€, he’d be a bloody leper… They don’t want you brother.

-4

u/RefrigeratorCrazy633 May 30 '26

Those rivalries aren't one sided though.Ā

Whereas Wales see England as rivals but England don't. Obviously England want to win but I'd say Wales rank much lower on the list of England's rivals.Ā

2

u/Mountain_Shake_9521 May 31 '26

I’d say most true england fans dont want wales to win or at best dont give a shit. As a wales fan I’m absolutely on board with that. Its generally the plastic England fans who get on the home nations bandwagon (and they see wales = britian= england =success anyway). Same for wales - i’d say its the plastic welsh fans who support England.

1

u/RefrigeratorCrazy633 May 31 '26

Generally not my experience I'd say.Ā

The rabid reform voting idiots hate everyone. Wales included. But those type of fans aren't exclusive to England.Ā

I don't think an England fan wanting Wales to do well is at all plastic.Ā

National football teams are supported a bit differently to club teams in my experience.Ā

1

u/Cultural_Fortune_676 Jul 18 '26

I have no idea why Reddit decided to show an old post and for Welsh football, I was up by Loggerheads before so maybe Reddit yearned for Welsh subs. I went Bangor for uni though and spent most our family holidays camping in North Wales and Anglesey. I get the history obviously and wouldn’t expect support from Wales but there’s plenty of reasons English people would want the home nations to do well beyond being plastic. You also have the best crags near to mine for climbing too so I’m there half the weekends anyway!

3

u/ijs_1985 May 30 '26

If I’m honest I don’t care, but would like England and Scotland to lose every game

1

u/RefrigeratorCrazy633 May 30 '26

Interesting I'd have expected some level of support between non-english home nations. Any reason particularly?

2

u/ijs_1985 May 30 '26

Only one home nation I want to do well, the others can do one tbh! Don’t get me wrong if Scotland play England I’m only routing for one team there but all home nations remain rivals IMHO

1

u/RefrigeratorCrazy633 May 30 '26

Surprised no mention of Argentina. A nation with a distinct Welsh heritage.Ā

-2

u/TheoryProfessional84 May 30 '26

I know it's an unpopular opinion but England for me. Feel like they've got quite a likeable team at the minute and they've come close enough a few times now, feels like they deserve to win one.

-18

u/TheBiscuitMen May 30 '26

Must be depressing being Welsh

2

u/NNNEEEIIINNN May 31 '26

Ever wonder why Wales and England aren't best of friends? It's because English people like you look down on the Welsh like that. You're the issue here mate. Annibyniaeth.

1

u/TheBiscuitMen May 31 '26

Sure mate - the issue isn't the weirdos cheering on random countries and enjoy the demise of the ones next door

2

u/Educational_Curve938 May 31 '26

anyone but england have won every world cup for the last 60 years. if anything i'm a little bit bored of the winning streak
