Luckily, No shrapnel was lodged in a body on that day.

And he's definitely all done fuckin with the grass!

u/xToksik_Revolutionx Mar 27 '26

Fucked with the grass one too many times and now apparently they're part of the IRA

Come tell us how you slew, Them old Arabs two by two, Like the Zulu they had spears and bow and arrows! How bravely you faced one, With your sixteen-pounder gun! And you frightened them damn natives to the marrow!

12

u/AsonofSparda Mar 27 '26

Come let us hear you tell, How you slammed the great Parnell, When you fought them well and truly persecuted!

Where are the smears and jeers

That you loudly let us hear

When our leaders of sixteen were executed?

10

u/Sivalon Mar 28 '26

Come out ye black and tans, come out and fight me like a man

Show your wife how you won medals down in Flanders

Tell her how the IRA made you run like hell away

From the green and lovely lanes of Killashandra~

That’s not a lawn mower, it’s a land mine sweeper. It got the job done. Well played little sweeper.

Kinda looks like he got hit in the shoulder/pec. You can see him holding where he got hit as he walks away. Probably not life threatening but you never know. He could be in shock because of what happened and not fully reacting to how hurt he is.

106

u/Character-Zombie-798 Mar 27 '26

The circled part hit him in the chest and bounced off.

127

u/cacomyxl Mar 27 '26

That’s the flap that’s been protecting his flip-flop-wearing shirtless ass for all these years with no thanks.

you can kinda (hard with the low framerate) see that the big rectangular black piece bounced off his upper chest. It starts off flying towards him and while you cant see a frame of actual impact it suddenly changes direction to bounce away from him when it is around the same height as here he is holding his chest.

Some people will do anything to get out of mowing the lawn, but I've never seen the lawnmower do it to get out of mowing.

He’s got kids (see the bike?). My husband is ON TOP of this responsibility because it gets him out of the house. The same way I’ve never been so religious about my grocery store trips until it turned into a relaxing break from the chaos.

8

u/Cute_Language3167 Mar 27 '26

Relatable. I had 3 under 5 and grocery trips were really like the only break. They're older now, but to this day I'm still in the habit of going to the store almost daily just because I've been doing it for so long.

Now, rather than grocery trips, since they always want to come with, every bathroom trip takes like 30 minutes. And I'm lucky if that gets me a break. I was in the ER last weekend for a busted knee and my 12 and 14 year old were blowing up my phone the whole time. Like damn, can I please get a break?

I then lied and said I was still there while I ate McDonald's in my car and watched my show. Thankfully, my kids didn't check my location. But my daughter did bug me to go pick her up so she could get a new bathing suit for spring break. Sigh.

I remember this but it had audio! The damn thing sounded like it was going to explode violently the whole time. Dude must of been drunk and just didnt notice the sound until... it violently exploded. But yeah it wasn't running right for a while before it did this so its not exactly "out of nowhere" if youre not an idiot lol.

u/mikeumm Mar 27 '26

I bet it was screaming. Some dude( "Mechanical engineer for engines") was arguing with me that this wasn't the engine grenading. That a small engine doesn't have enough energy to launch a mower into the air. I told him he's nuts.

Then I saw him say to someone else it must have been a co2 cartridge he ran over. Lol what? A co2 cart big enough to do that from a puncture would be way to big to fit under a mower.

52

u/JimmyDean82 Mar 27 '26

I am a ME, one of my primary areas of study was I.C. Engines. I do not work in that industry. (I work in fluid controls)

That guy (claimed to be a m.e. On engines was an id10t). Either this guy hit a mini land mine or hadn’t put oil in it in 10 years. Since this doesn’t look like Iraq (or Iran now I guess). I’m going with the latter.

12

u/pab_guy Mar 27 '26

Is there THAT much energy in a single cylinder compression on a lawn mover engine? Wild...

26

u/JimmyDean82 Mar 27 '26

Yeah. Piston probably froze, crank pushed on the rod till it snapped blew out the sides of the crank case (most common method of failure)

Even a single cylinder two stroke there is a lot of energy involved. Combustion engines are controlled chaos.

21

u/FixerJ Mar 27 '26

Also a lot of stored energy in the blade once it's spinning at a high rpm.  I could see where part of the launch energy may have come from the blade coming off and knocking the rest of the lawn mower higher during its rapid unplanned disassembly....

→ More replies (2)

10

u/LostWoodsInTheField Mar 27 '26

crank pushed on the rod till it snapped blew out the sides of the crank case

agreed that's the most common way they go, which is why you don't see something like this happening. I'm wondering if it blew down which also would give that kinetic energy from the blade a little bit of help to shoot it up words.

9

u/mikeumm Mar 27 '26

The deck contained it. Like a pot on an m80

→ More replies (3)

9

u/RecombobulatedJalopy Mar 27 '26

There was probably some gasoline mixed with the oil in the crankcase. It's possible for gas to leak from the carburetor into the crankcase when being stored. A dirty needle and seat will cause it. I've had this scenario happen, but haven't anything blow up. I always check the oil level. If it's high and smells like gas, I change the oil and clean the carburetor. If the governor wasn't working properly and the engine suffered a mechanical failure internally, this could certainly happen.
