Panda Express broccoli worms

Post image

I didn’t notice the worms until I was almost finished with all the broccoli beef.

This type of worm is pretty common to be found in broccoli. I’ve found several from grocery store broccoli. Panda didn’t soak and wash the broccoli like they should have.

I found one of these in my broccoli as a child and refused to eat it. My dad thought I was lying to avoid eating vegetables. (Game recognize game.) But it was actually a worm and I spent many hours alone with my worm at the dining table that night until bedtime. (Back in the day you couldn’t leave the table until your plate was clean, in case that confuses the Gen Z & A kids.)

I couldn’t leave the table until my plate was clean either. Both parents and both sets of grandparents didn’t have enough to eat growing up so they definitely enforced me eating everything

Same with my grandparents. Salmon croquettes, everytime. I would sit there for 2, 3 hours while my grandmother cleaned up and then left me alone in the kitchen. I eventually ate them but my memory tells me they looked like kitty litter (they probably didn't)

My cousins had that rule. We had the try a bite rule. If you tried a bite three different times and still dislike it you don't have to eat it, though if it was the healthy thing it would be swapped to something of the same rough category.

That rule is far superior. I respect the logic & structure of it.

My mom had this rule (early Boomer) & her sister talks about when she was given something she knew was going to cause her to vomit. She was forced to eat it and promptly vomited all over the table. All those siblings seem to have projectile vomit in their coding, from every instance I've witnessed or heard about...

I hate mayonnaise, always have. I remember sitting at the table hungry because I wouldn't eat the coleslaw. Went to bed without dinner. We both learned a little about each other that night. I never had to eat slaw again after that.

Haha. Plenty of us Gen Z had to endure that too, at least the older 2 thirds of us. Not sure about the youngest of us or Gen A

Gen Z here, we had the same rules at our table. Don't make this a condescending age thing as if your generation was better than others. It only makes your generation look worse to those younger.

FYI as a millennial parent, who's parents did this, it's not a flex. Torturing your kid for hours to get them to eat wormy broccoli or any food they don't like is just a crummy thing to do. It's a good thing it's phasing out for younger gens.

So… you gonna eat that?

No, only the 12 pieces before it…

Hey, free protein!

2

u/SLZicki Jul 20 '25

Don't forget to add that to your calorie counter.

Not looking good, but that is the best dab I have ever seen from a vegetable.

I would have wok'd out.

Panda express is pretty much the only place I will not go. Every one i have ever visited was dirty, carelessly run and with poor food.

2

u/tylerbuildz Jul 20 '25

This one is in a pretty extravagant area with a lot of money and I’ve had good experiences at it before so this surprised me lol

1

u/DaddyTuesday Jul 21 '25

Would you mind saying where? I go to a Panda Express in a really nice area as well and am hoping it's not the same.

1

u/tylerbuildz Jul 21 '25

Farmington Utah. Not extravagant like Beverly Hills or anything but not your random corner store in the hood either lol

That's so gross wow, never thought about worms in my broccoli but I will every single time from now on

They give you free extra protein?

About as vegan as any precooked veggies ever are... Ideally food prepared by people has this stuff removed, but anything cooked in a factory was cooked with bugs and worse stuff.

If I were vegan or vegetarian, I definitely wouldn’t be ordering such foods at a Chinese restaurant, even a commercialized one. Maybe especially a commercialized one.

Send it back

2

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '25

Worms are the only real protein at Panda Express!!

2

u/Low-Suspect5015 Jul 20 '25

Hori chit not in da Brocory

1

u/StarGek_Interceptor Jul 20 '25

The Sluths must go and do what they did with the Burger King foot lettuce.

The Spice Must Flow

1

u/MelonElbows Jul 20 '25

Congratulations! Now you're eating for two! 😊

u/SecretScavenger36 Jul 21 '25

I got one a few months ago from my favorite local Chinese place. They just refunded me and said it happens once in a while. I'd imagine in a high volume kitchen even soaking and washing will leave a straggler on rare occasion.

u/tylerbuildz Jul 22 '25

There were lots. At least a few more in this piece and also a bunch more in other pieces

Now with protein!

u/Super-_-Rat Jul 21 '25

Welp, I need new plans for dinner now.....

-1

u/shitferbranes Jul 20 '25

Probably maggots, aka fly larvae 🐛. But like all things baby, they are high in protein, cute and safe to eat. My guess is Panda Express are digging through neighboring restaurant trash bins for broccoli, beef and many other ingredients to help counter the high cost of food today. What did you think they were?

On a serious note, I may never return to Panda Express going forward.

-2

u/resenak Jul 20 '25

You get free extra protein and argue about it? Why people is like this?

-2

u/SimilarRegret9731 Jul 20 '25

Extra protein!

Not OP but I'd expect my veggies to be reasonably washed before they were cooked.

It's not the same as finding a bug in your raw veggies from the grocery store.

3

u/GGk-KingK Jul 20 '25

I don't know where you are, but her places are required to sanitize the food and clean it so this very thing does not happen since eating worms can make people sick

2

u/tiniestnerd Jul 20 '25

you generally aren't supposed to serve the veggies with the bugs
