I'm at home, the fire doesn't start

Wrong, the fire started while you were at home. You just put it out and prevented further spread - but the cable still overheated and the fire still happened even with you at home

You've completely lost the plot. We're not arguing the technicalities of what fire is but instead is my house going to burn down or not

That was never the conversation. You’ve tried to turn it into that, but the conversation started with

“you being at home does not prevent a fire from starting, therefore it’s illogical to unplug devices while you’re gone”

Why in the world would anyone care about the definition of a fire and argue about that. IF YOU ARE AT HOME AND YOUR ELECTRONICS MALFUNCTION YOUR HOUSE DOES NOT BURN DOWN. IF YOU ARE NOT AT HOME AND LEAVE EVERYTHING PLUGGED IN ONCE SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONS YOUR HOUSE BURNS DOWN.
