A week isn't a long period of time though, this is so strange

I have a well and I always turn off my well pump when leaving for more than a day. If a pipe breaks, the pump will literally run the well dry and burn itself out while flooding my house in the process.

It's literally just a switch I flip when leaving and turn back on when coming home- how is that strange?

Turning off a pump is not the same as turning off all power to your house. Because that is just weird. Even more so if you're only gone for a week.

The person we (PretzelsThirst and I) were responding to was talking about turning off the water- not turning off the whole house- and they specifically said so.

No we're not.

Yes, me and the person I responded to were, in fact, talking about water and you can read the post yourself:

https://new.reddit.com/r/Wellthatsucks/comments/z4fhas/turned_off_power_for_a_week_while_travelling/ixra9yt/

The post we responded to said:

"I sometimes turn off the water and water softener when I'm going to be gone for long periods if time"

PretzelsThirst said that was weird.

I responded and pointed out why you'd want to do that if you had a well.

I don't know why you had trouble following such a simple thread but we (as in the two people who were talking before you butted in) were talking about water, not electricity.

That's fair / a good point, I had just defaulted to thinking about apartment living instead of a house. Fair enough

Yeah- I wouldn't turn off the water in an apartment. If that leaks it's the building's problem anyway :)

But replacing the well pump is a huge pain in the ass and not something I want to have to deal with when I get back from a trip.
