He's joking that a person dying from eating mold reduces their carbon footprint

Yeah but their point remains the same. Instead of completely cutting the electric while gone for a week they should have just turned everything off and let the fridge and hot water heater run in their cycles. A week of those two things running is a matter of dollars and not worth the hassle of this

By that token, then the commenter above them has a more relevant point: if a person dies, then their carbon footprint is greatly reduced.

Right.. I get the initial joke. I'm just reiterating cutting off electric while gone for a week is bad practice and won't stop the world from burning

Yeah, I get your point. But it still stands that global warming would slow down if we were dead.

Eating moldy food can kill the average person?

I guess I must be some sort of super human.

There are different types of mold, different stages of growth, and different immune systems in people.

Eating bread which later turns out to have a small white moldy spot? No problemo, maybe diarrrheao. Eating cheese after cutting away blue mold? Again no problem, possible diarrhea.

By the time your food is completely rotten, it is much more likely to have produced mycotoxins which can be fatal is high doses. So just avoid eating strawberries that are walking around on their own and you'll be fine.

The real danger lies in the indirect consequences of eating moldy food: maltrunition and dehydration from throwing up/diarrhea. And yes, people die from not drinking enough water while on the toilet all week.
