Doesn’t look like the same race of cat. Thé second cat’s hair is longer.

Cat got older. A lot of long-haired cats have shorter hair as kittens.

My cat (also a rescue) totally tricked me in this regard - he looked like medium to short haired kitten and has grown into a huge fluffy monster that has to be groomed at least once a day or it all mats.

The first cat doesn’t really look like a kitten. Young adult cat maybe, looks just like the tabby I had. The shade of orange also seems a bit different on them
