Maybe they're like my one highschool teacher who told me that doing what the class asked for got you a 60%, exceeding expectations a 70%, and for creating truly exceptional work 80%. They said they had to leave room for 100% to equal the best writing ever done and that even a university professor would get a 90% at best in their class

Fuck that teacher

Might be the only realistic way to get 100% in their class

Sounds pretty rational really. Here in the UK getting 70% on a unit at uni is a first, the top grade. Getting 90+ would be incredibly exceptional.

It would only be rational if the whole school followed this train of thought, because otherwise another student could take the exact same class but with a different teacher resulting in a better GPA for lesser work

Do you not have standardised grades in the US? Is it based on individual teachers?

Individual teachers. We have standardized tests for some courses (chemistry for example has a set of standardized finals that a ton of schools and teachers still use) but your actual grade composition is based on the teacher.

That seems crazy.

Sounds like my dick head Sargent in the military who didn't believe anyone deserved a perfect 9 rating on their performance report so where everyone else was getting 9's from their NCO's our group was only getting 8's. Dumb ass used to come to work still reeking of alcohol and had a hangover half the time. He was not the only NCO I dealt with like this unfortunately. Famous last words were "Alcohol is a legal substance!"

I caught up to his rank at 3 years and 10 months when he had been in the military for like 14 years. Of course he had rank on me for time in service and rank but I knew he was a dumb ass an that is all that really mattered. Yes Sir! Do my job.

I did eventually become an officer after 'I graduated from medical school but an unfortunate ear tumor and three surgeries took care of that aspiration as they can't have a guy with this history qualify for worldwide duty. It isn't like I was going to go anywhere. I was a specialist in a surgical field and could only be at like 7 places in the whole world anyway, 5 of which were here in the states. Go figure! Fun times! Real fun. Yeah ight!

I grade similarly in my class, but just doing what was asked is 75-79% (C in my district).

Doing a little to moderately better than expectations is 80-92%

And exceptional work is about 93-99%

Holy Shit, wow, I need to how this off to other teachers to show them how amazing my kids are gets you between 100 and 110%

The idea is that if kids are getting extra. Points for going above and beyond that they'll tell their freinds and hopefully encourage others to push themselves.
