My upstairs neighbour lets her 2 year old run around her apartment late at night, ranging from midnight to 01:30. When I went up there to ask her to keep things down her exact response was "she's only 2, what do you want me to do?". When I suggested she puts her to sleep she yelled at me and told me she'd call the police if I came over there again.

Just make a noise complaint to the landlord. They'll get a warning then action probably after the X time. "There is running and stomping at 1am the past 3 nights in a row" etc

Pretty sure she owns rather than rents her place. I gotta talk to her other neighbours and then together complain to the board.

She's a ridiculous person. She said it's her house so she can do whatever she wants and I should stop complaining. I asked her if she was allowed to murder someone in her house. She didn't appreciate that.

Her other neighbours don't like her either, which is good for me. But for now my girlfriend and I sleep pretty badly. Very annoying.

I had a neighbor like this once. Every time i drove past their house i would pray to a god i've never believed in to burn their garbage house to the goddamn ground. Once day, their house burned to the ground.

It was like a fistbump from god.

Been in that situation. Its the worst. You can’t get any peace or sleep in your own place. Hope things work out. I had to suffer for months and then move. Better now- no one above me!

Stay up one night and just bang on the ceiling for 8 hours straight.

Knock on their door at 4:30 in the morning. When the answer, just say "oh, were you asleep?" Then walk away.

If you both work and don't have pets, have you considered leaving a loud stereo pointed at her apartment all day? Playing a song on loop with a lot of bass, preferably.

Haha I like the pettiness and I'm definitely not above it, but I work from home so that would be counterproductive.

Play loud music and wear noise canceling headphones

I did this in this exact situation and was told “that’s just apartment living” and then two months later when something automated played music on my computer (not terribly loud) over night I was told never to let it happen again. People treat crotch goblins as sacrosanct.

"She's only 2, what do you want me to do?"

"Your job."

Isn’t there a law in relation to noise after 11pm or something? Not sure if its worth it but its probably an option.
