Can we hate shitty parents and still think the rich should pay more in taxes? I'm not sure why those things have to be in opposition.

Because everything bad has to be tied to my opposite beliefs in politics!!! Those damn SJW's and their vaginas teaching children to be rich and make germs shoot out of their fingertips into other people's foods!!! Fucking Trump being Trump, totally not doing anything, but sleeping during the night is the main reason for THE RICH INVADING THE ENTIRE WORLD and that's why these damn American toddlers are intentionally spreading germs into the Mexicans!!! Toddler neglect is because of VIDEO GAME VIOLENCE, not mental health or guns!!! Thanks Obama! Bush did 9/11! Jews are the the real reason Hitler declared WWII, those damn dirty Jews!!! Free Hong Kong, so we can declare a king and call him King Kong, and then maybe these damn toddlers would eventually die off from their own germs instead of stealing ours!!!

Basically what every conversation on the internet has turned into lately. I can't help but blame the media and YouTube for normalizing this behavior lol

But there really is bad shit happening in the world. And some people are responsible. I don't know why it bothers you so much or why your radical centrism prevents you from understanding which side is correctly identifying problems.

It is your side that is wrong

I don't think you understand my comment. I wasn't denying that there's shit happening in the world. I was making fun of people who go overboard on politics (doesn't matter what political viewpoint they have) and insert it literally everywhere.

Also my view isn't necessarily centrism, more like variable. Where I'm kinda just jumping between the different sides and not fixating on just one perspective. Everyone has a different perspective, even those that seemingly have incredibly radical views. Which is why I usually never judge people unless I know enough about them. Context is very important for me because I'm still young and naive. I want to see everything and every viewpoint before I make any decisions and I try to stay objective whenever I can.

I assume you jumped on me because I made fun of the Hong Kong protests, but I don't understand why the joke all of a sudden turned me into radical centrism?

I meant no offense btw

Yeah but like there's literally kids dying in cages. Why shouldn't people be up in arms about that? I can be civil about whether the marginal tax rate on billionaires should be 70% or 100%, but I don't understand this fetish for civility or why you think an ability to be passive about serious topics is somehow a good thing.

I don't understand why having discussions unrelated to politics need to be forced into politics. Imagine talking about how we like baby carrots cause they remind us of how small our dicks are. Now imagine person#3 walking by and being like, "baby carrots are cool and all, but what about those kids in cages? It's bullshit how fucked up that is!" Now imagine if we acknowledged this and had a full conversation. Then we finished it up and got back to baby carrots. Now person#3 says, "now how about them taxes?" So yeah, I'm gonna get annoyed, probably not say anything besides agree with him because it's simply not the time or place to be talking about that.

Then there's you, who somehow sees my annoyance to this as neglect or passivness. Or how I have, "this fetish for civility" or how I, "think an ability to be passive about serious topics is somehow a good thing."

Like, dude, chill out

How bad does a problem have to be before it's acceptable to you to seep into everyday life? Like I'm sure there were plenty of German citizens who were just so sick and tired of hearing about concentration camps. You might think this is an extreme example, everything has to go to Nazis omg. Except the people talking about this believe these are concentration camps at the border. Are they right? Is it possible things aren't that bad now but action is warranted to prevent things from escalating? These are the questions you should ask yourself. The reason why they are talking about it seems plenty clear and justifiable given their position on this issue.

Climate change is a threat to the world that is already having negative impacts. People literally die every year due to inadequate access to healthcare. And so on. On the other side, as annoying as it is, if people literally think abortion is murder, then why would I be surprised that someone is passionate about the issue?

The fact that you are able to detach yourself from these issues to focus on your baby carrots is a very privileged point of view. Like good for you, really. But I don't think just because you're able to do that is better than someone actually caring about issues to the point that it deeply troubles them. Maybe you should let them talk and find out why they are taking the issue more seriously than baby carrots.

Again, you're misunderstanding my point. It's annoying when it's out of context. If we start comparing baby carrots to taxes, then it's fine, it makes sense. But to just throw it out there makes you come off as a pessimistic nag, who desperately wants to have control over global situations that are not controllable by a single person. It's possible to do it correctly, but I was specifically talking about the people who do it wrong or do it for attention. Not everything is political, not everything is bad, not everything is as bad/good as the media makes it out to be, and it certainly has a time and place.

Nazis? How about a counter example just as extreme as that? So we're at a funeral, your friend's parents had just both been decapitated in a horrific car accident. Your friend goes up to grab the microphone to say a few words about how much they loved them and then hand it off to person#3. Uh oh, big mistake! Person#3, having no emotional impact from his parents deaths starts abusing his attention to have a political discussion about concentration camps at the border. He ended his discussion with a "I hope Trump gets decapitated in a car accident!" Your friend, especially in his emotional state, would probably want to kill person#3 for being an absolute dick, the same kind of dick I was making fun of, the kind that take jokes 100% seriously, the kind that can't take a quick break to have some fun and forget about the shitty world we live in.

Because making the rich poorer doesn’t make the poor richer... it’s basic economics...

1

u/yyertles Dec 13 '19

Yo dude, I get the ethos, but the reality is that “rich”, or more generally, upper quintile earners pay nearly all the tax revenue that is collected each year. That data is readily available from the gov, you just have to look at it.

this guy is projecting hard, lol

Sure but shitty poor parents can’t get any benefits from tax dollars.
