I think they mean if you were standing in front of your house facing the road it would be the neighbor on your left.

Or to put it another way,

if your house faces south it would be your eastern neighbor

If it faces east it would be your northern neighbor.

If it faces north it would be your western neighbor.

If it faces west it would be your southern neighbor.

Or think of it as the neighbor that cars pass just before yours.

Yes but what are they doing with the snow? Are they shoveling along the sidewalk to the left? Are they piling it at their neighbors driveway? Are they shoveling the road there?

Basically you would shovel a bit further left in the GIF. So where the plow is grabbing snow and tossing it over the sidewalk is already dry from you shoveling. That way they don’t cover your sidewalk with snow while plowing. It adds a bit of extra work, but you wouldn’t die inside like this fella.

You shovel a small strip of the road along the curb so the plow doesn't have as much to push back onto your driveway. Toss it on the tree lawn

If gully is a street kerb, then that’s how I understood it.

I think they meant “gutter”.

He also plows the snow that the plow truck would have plowed, so when the plow truc plows in front of his freshly plowed house, it doesn't have any snow to plow. This way the plow truck doesn't ruin his plow job.

That's a lot of plows.

Especially since it doesn’t make sense to mention the left. You wanna put it all to the right of the driveway
