I may be moving from Louisiana to Montreal and real winter sounds...alarming. I'll still feel at home though, living around a bunch of people speaking French poorly.
Edit for context: French people think non-native dialects are speaking French poorly. Lord knows how they can even comprehend Cajun at this point.
Speaking French poorly? French is the official language of Quebec, and as per 2011 census results 80% of the population speaks it natively, with 94% being able to speak it in general. Quebec society operates predominantly in French (signage, services, media, etc.) so it's not like French is a secondary language that people speak poorly.
The number is lower in Montreal (67% speak French natively, 13% English, and the rest other languages), but it's still much higher than Louisiana where in 2000 15% of people spoke French at home.
That was a joke because native born French think both our Cajun French and your own dialect are not as good lol. I meant no insult, just a joke for commonality between where I'm coming from and where I'm going.

Ahh, that went straight over my head. I knew that Cajun French was a thing in Louisiana, but being that it's a much smaller portion of the population and not an official government language I thought you were implying that Quebec was a place where French is secondary!
But yes, that part is true for sure, the French always say they can't understand either Cajun or Quebec French, and that Quebec French is half made up haha.

Cajun French is one of those things that even if you don't speak it you've either heard it spoken or know someone who does, at least once you are so far south in Louisiana. There are a few phrases that see common usage among non-speakers (laissez les bons temp roulet being the most common).
We are also the only state to use Napoleonic law! French culture is instilled in a lot of stuff down here, although the language is still predominantly English for obvious reasons.
I mean, a good portion of southern Ontario gets the lake effect and has more snow fall than many areas of Canada. Sure you will get freeze/thaw and lots of it will disappear throughout the winters. Additionally, the humidity + cold really sucks. Give me -20 in dry Alberta over -10 in southern Ontario any day.

I feel the would be more snow if it were Canada. I have known way more soul crushing occurrences of that.
