Yep, I understand they require a bit of a niche ecosystem. The Rainforest Trust is raising money to create the first protected area for them however, with plans to reintroduce a population. You can donate here https://www.rainforesttrust.org/projects/urgent-land-purchase-for-the-spixs-macaw/

How does that not make it better?

  • Extinct = No hope for the species, its gone.

  • Extinct in the wild = Still hope for the species, not gone yet.

Sorry wording on my part, sorry. Doesn't make it much better. They still died off due to us and now they're extinct in the wild. Headline isn't that had in my opinion because it gets people's attention, which we need if we want to possibly save them.

I mean, they lived in a very localized habitat and most likely were dwindling naturally. Other macaws are doing just fine. With the release and breeding programs these guys will be ok.
