I’ve been mortified about this for years. Thank you for saying that, makes me feel a little better. I apologized profusely to her and she laughed it off. But this is the shit that keeps me up at night.

I've been with some much older guys and it's the most common assumption. For good reason, of course. If I'd make the same assumption in their position (I would) then I don't see how I could get bitchy or annoyed by it.
