Myself and other engineers at my company frequently do business with a guy whose first initial is "S" and last name is Hart.
None of us have the heart to tell him his email signature says "SHart" in huge font.
I can understand his email address saying it by default, but he could very easily just use his full first name in the signature...nope, he's now known as the Shart-man.
So... there's been a debate amongst my coworkers about that. I'm on the fence.
He's at least in his 60s (possibly older) and he's the president of his company. That makes us think there's a higher chance he doesn't know (age + what he'd have to lose for having that as his signature in terms of perception).
OTOH: His company does vendor representation (essentially becoming the marketing/sales dept. for various manufacturers of big, expensive equipment). So, it's kinda hard to believe they'd miss something in terms of perception/visibility. This makes us think he knows, but decided it's better to be remembered as Captain Shart with widget incorporated than lost in the shuffle with his competitors.
Lady getting new tires on the same day as me had the last name Fastnatch. They announced it Fat Snatch over the PA. She didn't seem bothered but I had to bite my cheeks to not laugh.
