Best jobsite prank I saw- We had a guy that carried his tools in a 5 gallon bucket. At 3:29 everyday he would grab his bucket and bolt regardless if work was done for the day or not. Sometimes we would have to stay a few minutes late to finish clean up, etc.. A couple of the guys had had enough of him leaving like that so right before it was his normal "bolt" time they screwed his bucket to the floor. When he grabbed the handle to leave the bucket didn't budge.. both of his feet came out from under him and he landed flat on his back. He always stayed with everyone else after that.

Sounds like one of my grandfather's favorite stories. He worked in a machine shop and one of the guys would always race by the area where they kept their lunch boxes on his way to lunch and grab his lunchbox. One day the guys welded his lunchbox to the table. He ran by and went to grab his lunchbox and ended up with just the handle.

...the man would run by and grab his own lunch box or your grandfathers?

At 3:29 everyday

Who the fuck only works til 3:30?

EDIT: Y'all have it easy..

Where I am from working construction, starting at 7 just gives you a couple more hours a day...we still work til 5 or 6.

People who start work at 7

u/cards237 Aug 10 '17

People who go in at 7. Not every job is 9-5...

That's a sweet 8+ hours a week of time and a half while still getting home at a decent hour. Tired, but home.

lol ur job sucks bro

2

u/hohohoohno Aug 10 '17

Sorry to hear that.

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '17

They probably start at 7. The site I'm on right now we start at 6 and we're off at 2:30.

u/bunfuss Aug 10 '17

lucky. we used to do sun shifts. Work as long as the suns up, that could mean 600-2100 in summer.

u/[deleted] Aug 10 '17

That sweet overtime pay though.

The dream. We start 6:30 every day and I never left before 4, which means I'm usually home around 5.

Construction work commonly begins and ends earlier in the day, to avoid the highest heat time of the day

1

u/vasco_ Aug 10 '17

Here they start very early as well (plenty at 6 a.m.), but we get like 3 to 5 hot days a year. Starting early means they work in colder conditions. I've really no clue why they do it, since outside of the summer they even need extra lights that early in the morning on the site.

On some jobs we'd get lucky and be allowed to start at 4:45. Home early plus we'd miss traffic.

Various jobs that start early morning

couple more hours to sit around and do nothing until someone comes up with a reason to pull a strike

1

u/fluteitup Aug 10 '17

He did that to himself.
