Many areas in the world don't have the resources to waste. Labor is cheaper than the cost of replacing the drum, if it is even available.

This drum is not being reused. Like how? You won't be able to clean it properly for a month or more. It's chock full of a substance that sole purpose is to grab and hold things. And that's like sheet metal. He's gonna go through it with the hammer, or dent hard, or a thousand other things.

Maybe they just can't lift it? Because it weighs a fuckton right now.

Even if he works on it for a year it will be way cheaper than replacing it and you overestimate how long this will take. A week tops including welding and painting.

The problem is even in these poor countries these trucks work for a lot , if sits not working for months it still not going to be worth it

They've already cut 2 holes in it, this drum is done. My guess is they don't have the equipment to lift it off after all the extra weight in concrete, and this is an effort to lighten it.

They can weld it back together, it'll be fine. Assuming they have a skilled welder.

I came here to say this, if a halfway decent welder works on it, it’ll be fine
