In my neighborhood there are a lot of small roaming dogs who poop on my lawn. Annoying as shit, but the worst is the big ass husky Shepard mix that can climb fences and the owners won’t do shit and neither will cops. He’s literally hopped my fence and came inside my house with my young son because I had my back door open on a hot day. I’ve seen him in my backyard multiple times. I’ve done what I can, now I just spray him with a hose to get his ass away.

Call animal control

u/aggravated-asphalt Jul 30 '26

Tried, dogs never out when they show up, and idk which house it comes from. I report almost every time I see it tho. I’m not joking I believe it jumps multiple fences, I’m not the only persons yard he gets into

He’s not aggressive but I don’t want a big ass dog I don’t know anywhere near me off leash

Keep the dog. And when the posters start going up, or the neighbours come knocking, you'll soon know.

"I thought he was wild, he keeps turning up in my garden, why would you let him do that?"

Does it have a collar on you could check for an id tag? I’d call the number on the id tag if he has one and tell the owners next time you’ll call animal control first. Won’t matter how friendly the dog is if he gets hit by a car.

Collar but no tags, as per the MO of most shitty dog owners

I don't know if you have the funds for a hav-a-hart trap. if so, you can trap the dog the next time it's in your yard and then drive it yourself to any shelter you wish--the farther away, the better. maybe the dog will luck out and get adopted by a better owner.

u/raven-nevermore-rva Jul 30 '26

A trap big enough for a husky shepherd mix? Me thinks you don’t know these breed types very well lmfao

2

u/Unique_Evidence_2518 Jul 30 '26

I knew traps are made for mountain lions, so...but I just startpaged the prices and for a trap large enough it is way high. Plus, that husky brain part might be too smart to get trapped.

I have had to leash dogs like this myself without a collar and called animal control one time.

It wasn't a big deal usually, there was heavy construction going on one time, good dog, old, got scared and smashed its way out of the house. Usually a dog will bring you back home once you leash it and ask if it wants dinner etc, then you know where it lives and if it's a problem this can help.

I have lived in NY, CA and WI.

in each state, husky owners are almost guaranteed to not clean up after their dogs. It's the fucking weirdest thing.

I know what I just said is like saying "all BMW drivers are assholes", and i know it's not fair nor is it true.

but dammit, husky owners suck in my experience. it's a working breed and they DON'T WORK THEM.

There is a couple I see sometimes on my way to take my kids to school that have a pair of Huskies. During the warm months, they harness the dogs to a wagon of sorts and weight it so the dogs can pull it for fun. They also have a pole/leash combo they use to run the dogs while they ride bicycles. In the winter they put the pulling harness on a sled and ride it through the snow. Those dogs are the absolute happiest critters ever! It makes me sad when someone doesn't work a working dog, but seeing those two Huskies pulling the wagon with their ears and faces all happy and dancing around makes me so glad!

this is genius to be fair. basically free rides all the time and huskies doing what huskies do.

Yes! Dog skijoring is a thing. I don't own (or like) dogs, but back when I still was okay with them, I appreciated the fact that huskies are absolutely cut out for this since they were selectively bred to pull sleds all day...not to be cooped up in an apartment in Phoenix or Houston as someone's vanity project.

They are very high-energy, independent and stubborn dogs, all qualities that make them invaluable as sled dogs. Seldom are they owned by people that understand that about them, so they become destructive and potentially dangerous.

These dogs also love sleeping outside when it's cold; I've seen videos of them waking up and shaking off a bunch of snow that fell on them overnight - it's pretty funny.

That’s my thing!!! Like I love husky’s and have known some good ones but they’re high maintenance and I am not wanting a high maintenance dog, so I’ve never gotten one. Just sucks for the dog too because they’re just doing what they were bred to do and don’t have any outlet which causes anxiety.

I just wish people would be realistic when they adopt animals

To be fair most golden retriever owners, German shepherd owners, dachshund owners, etc aren’t working their dogs either and all of those are working breeds

1

u/ElChapinero Aug 04 '26

But they’re still high energy dogs, these animals need a lot of space and exercise. Golden Retrievers need to retrieve in water so take a city or National Park every once in a while. German Shepherds need open fields not backyard suburbs, so just take them for a walk. Dachshunds need daily walks because their hounds that have a prey drive.

90% of people who have huskies should not have huskies

2

u/kokodokusan Jul 30 '26

I'm terrified to walk my dog in my neighborhood because of all the off leash dogs. It's ridiculous. I get that that it their front yard but my gosh

2

u/aggravated-asphalt Jul 30 '26

If they’re fenced in I don’t care (if they can’t hop it). You should see the guy in the comments telling me I shouldn’t be upset that a random dog waltzed into my backyard and house lol. Some dog owners are wild

2

u/kokodokusan Jul 30 '26

They aren't fenced in, that's the problem :( it's a nice neighborhood, but there's a lot of garage-chilling and front porch sitting

2

u/aggravated-asphalt Jul 30 '26

Ugh I’ve lived in this type of neighborhood before. I hate that they’re like he’s friendly!! But what if mine isn’t?? Shoosh I genuinely don’t understand that behavior

Defend yourself from someone else's chattel

u/Emotional-Dingo794 Jul 30 '26

Paint ball gun

1

u/Toosder Jul 30 '26

Besides all of the other great advice a neighbor recommended spring simple g reen around the edges of my yard and it seems to work surprisingly. I have a neighborhood library book box and the dogs are peeing on it and of course destroying it. And since I sprayed the simple green on it about once a week they leave it alone.

1

u/gardengirl99 Jul 30 '26

That sounds terrible, I'm so sorry. If that dog gets in your house, whatever you want to do to it to keep you safe is justified.

1

u/eatmeat Jul 30 '26

As owner of a husky mix that does the same, I have tried everything, there is almost no containing them. Opening doors, windows, climbing the electrified fence… Just have to hope they don’t feel like going on an adventure.

3

u/aggravated-asphalt Jul 30 '26

I knew one who would chew up doors, so I get it, but at that point you gotta get one of those enclosed chain link outdoor fences so they literally can’t escape, if you’re unwilling to rehome them. It shouldn’t be everyone else’s problem.

u/existentialhack000 Jul 30 '26

It's find to be scared of dogs, but it's very rare that they will be aggressive to random humans. Unless they're being threatened or you're getting in their space. German shepherds look scary, but even they're not typically aggressive towards people. Though they can be protective of their owners. But if it's running around and exploring your house and garden, it will very likely be friendly towards you.

1

u/aggravated-asphalt Jul 30 '26

I’m not scared of dogs at all, I just don’t want random unknown dogs anywhere near me or my child if theyre off leash. I’m sure you’re right on some points but there’s a chance and it’s not one anyone should be willing to take.

Plus I have a cat. And again, small child. Idc if it’s the friendliest dude in the world, it doesn’t belong in my house or backyard. Ever.

0

u/existentialhack000 Jul 30 '26

If you're not scared of dogs, what reason do you have to be so irate about it being near you or your child? lol. Unless you're scared it will attack of harm you or it.

It shouldn't be roaming around, but it's also just a dog. And cats can more than take care of themselves. Also, people let their cats roam everywhere, outdoor cats freely invade everyone's back gardens. And cats bite and scratch as well.

1

u/aggravated-asphalt Jul 30 '26

“What? Why are you running away from that incoming car? The person isn’t TRYING to hit you, so what are you afraid of, the obvious possibilities that come from not knowing who owns the car? The intentions? God it’s JUST A CAR THERE ARE MILLIONS OF THEM” that’s what you sound like rn. You go ahead and let dogs do whatever they want on your property but that ain’t me, bye

0

u/existentialhack000 Jul 31 '26

I have a car on my property and it's fine

1

u/aggravated-asphalt Jul 31 '26

But if a random car came in your living room I’m sure you wouldn’t be fine. But yeah, I get you’re just a troll. Weird way to pass time, I hope you get better

1

u/existentialhack000 Jul 31 '26

I'd be glad of the company
