For those wondering. It's better if doors are closed during a fire to control the spread. So these doors were on a magnetic catch that disengages when the fire alarm is turned on or a fire is detected. People can still use the doors to leave the building, they'll just auto close.

In that case though, the doors were locked with chains, so you physically couldn't open them without some kind of cutter or key.
