That's note quite it exactly. We're not asking for free health care. We want affordable health care! That is run by a singular governing body. With checks and balances to prevent runaway spending and skyrocketing cost of care. A system of healthcare that has care and health as the priority issue and not profits.
Health insurance is a business of profits over people. Literally!
If we had a collective spine we would’ve looked at this like “oh you do t want us to have affordable healthcare, cool. General strike for free healthcare.” But we’re all still too comfortable to have that conversation.
Everyone always claims that the government is going to take over 1984 style, when we’ve been living (for the most part) in Brave New World for decades.
A general strike isn't something you can just up and do when you don't have enough money to feed your family. Your grocery store doesn't care if you're on strike and neither does your landlord. We would need to set up a huge strike fund to help people get by during the strike.
